For years my mother used to thaw a turkey on the tops of the tiles on our counter in the kitchen because she said it would thaw faster. Years later (when i had my own place) It was my turn for Turkey day, I did not think about it, and let my bird thaw on the wood cutting boards in the kitchen....Bird took 4 days to unthaw!
Anyone heard of this "Myth" (if you will) ??

Science pure science, actually if you had an aluminum pan big enough it would thaw out quicker, just like tile it conducts cold like heat and draws the cold away from what ever you're thawing. The hitch here is because of the size you have to rotate your bird ever so often. If you plan on cooking that bird today good luck

That is an excellent idea Mr. Lizard. I am impressed by desire to multitask and be efficient with your time. I am currently taking a Health and Safety class and we just completed the food safety section. Thawing in the refrigerator (put on the bottom shelf so the blood doesn't drip and contaminate other foods) or under running water is the best and safest day to thaw meat. I think perhaps after cooking the turkey, right before serving stuff it with candy so it's kind of like a pinata. I just found out about the "turducken" which is a turkey stuffed with a duck which is then stuffed with a chicken. The suggestion is to fill in the gaps with stuffing. I suggest ground beef to add another animal in the mix.

No, never heard of either. You are not suppose to thaw any meat or fowl like that. It is suppose to thaw in the refridgerator or in a sink full of cold water. I put mind in the cold water and it thawed over night.
