microbiology and biochemistry have a very good scope in in both india and abroad.

microbiology has very vast applications in all fields, right from using microbes to eat up oil spills, to increasing soil fertility, & to enhancing plant vigour. However the best applications lie in pharmaceutical industry where massive research is being conducted for producing antibiotics out of microbes like penicillin, auromycin, production of human insulin, producing drugs from genetically modified organisms etc. prodction of botox. Microbes act as borh friends and foe. Where they are harmful, they are eliminated from drugs. So microbiology has tremendous applications in pharmaceutical industry. Both in R&D, QA/Qc and production also.

Biochemistry is extremely useful in food technology, biotechnology and again pharmaceuticals. Has great applications in drug modelling, drug synthsis, study of drug metabolism, and drug design. With the advancements in bioinformatics, biochemistry has come from lab to computers as well. Apart from that in food technology where more and more foods are being being treated as nutraceuticals, value addtion etc. etc.
In biotech mostly it has applications in studying plant or animal metabolism, and as adjuvant for research projects.

There are very many good openings in India and abroad. Offcource the pharmaceutical giants exist in the WEST, however this is a fast developing sector in India as well.

Offcourse pursuing a career on the education side is also an option. You can always opt for a teaching profession if it interests you. Where again the propects are good becoz these days there are very few good professors / lecturers.
Whatever be your area of interest, you must do your post grad and then Ph.D. Then only the job prospects will be very bright.

I used to artwork in a Marine Biology Lab for a wastewater treatment plant and we had a Microbiology lab that employed Microbiologists to attempt the water that the wastewater became released into. additionally they went out into the field, Southern California beaches, to pattern the water.
