Altruism is unselfish concern for the welfare of others. It is a traditional virtue in many cultures, and central to many religious traditions. In English, this idea was often described as the Golden rule of ethics.

I agree with previous definitions. I would add that as a motivation for doing anything, altruism is one of the few for which cannot be beaten in a game of corner. Anything which involves self (such as greed or jealousy) can destroy a person in a corner.
If you are motivated by altruism, you can beat any opponent in the game of power. Hence, the previous mention of ethics in association with altruism. You cannot become a bent professional if you are not greedy, and are not motivated by other vices.
This does not mean that everyone should become a label. (such as person centred care at uni) It means that if you are clear what motivates you, you cannot be tempted to be illegitimate.

Altruism is a philosophical term. To be an altruistic person means to be truly concerned for other people's well being, without expecting to be rewarded for your actions.

Altruistic means when you do something good for no other reason than doing something good. You personally get nothing out of it, a completely selfless act for the good of others.

In Britain the spelling doesn't matter. When Mrs Thatcher became Prime Minister, the concept was made redundant and no government has thought to revive it.

Anemic is having the status of anemia, a condition where red blood cells do not carry enough oxygen to support the correct rate of cell respiration. This will often cause fatigue, and out of breath, similar to some symptoms of asthma.

You were right w/ the first spelling. It means to be concerned only with the benefit of something to others, not oneself. Think charity without a tangible reward.
