hey come on, all baby animals are like that. they love to play and act all tough to hide their fright. you must understand, all the animals are wild, even if we tame them and keep them as pets. they treat you as a cat and not as human. so they expect you to play back with them, in their style. not human style.
you could have really had a nice time once it grew. it would have sobered down a bit and also played in a subtle manner.
anyway, one other experience i have is that, if they are real free in expressing their mode of play, it means they are very fond of you and like you so much, they think you are their protector and such....

(just a note, you posted this in the dog section.)
It's normal! They have to learn to hunt and play, usually from littermates. If your kitty was alone, she was trying to use you as littermates.
If you get another kitten, don't give up so soon. Get lots of toys, like squeakies on "fishing poles", and play a lot! You can make your own poles with dowel rods and some strong string. Drag it along the floor or dangle it above the kitten. Their sharp little teeth go in the toy, not you.
If your kitten does bite or claw at you directly, stop petting or put them down and go away. Withdrawal of affection is less useful on cats, works great on dogs, but eventually the cat will realize it gets less petting when its claws are out.

Most kittens, just like children, are experimenting with their limitations and strengths. The only way to make a strong muscle or mind is to exercises them. As a kitten they really don't know how strong they are and are so full of curiosity at the new world they just don't know how to slow down unless they have past out asleep from exhaustion, but once beyond this point when they have learned their strengths and you have shown them their limitation, they calm down.

I think that sometimes if a baby kitten is not trained, it will be mean/fiesty. That's usually why you train a pet. I had a dog that would bite us when we first bought it, but then we got it trained. I'm not really sure if you normally train cats, but you can check at "Petco" or another pet store for details.
Oh, I actually just reread your question and saw you gave her away...too late for training... sorry!

If you play rough with your kitten, s/he will become very aggresive towards you. No kitten is born mean or Fiesty. Its how you make it.
