See the first link below for recommended projectors at various resolutions (and price points).

I suggest looking at the Mitsubishi HD1000U (reviews at links 2 and 3) ... currently under $1000. Great value for the money!

If you want to move up I agree with the previous responder ... the Panasonic PTAX100U is getting great reviews and is the 5th generation Panasonic LCD projector. Under $2000.

Before deciding, read reviews and consider how well possible options fit YOUR needs. There isn't a perfect projector, so you will have to compromise on something. Picture quality isn't the only consideration -- be sure to consider zoom lens range and mounting flexibility. Don't choose one that fails to meet critieria important to you.

That said, it's a great time to be buying a projector though. $1500 buys better performance than $5000 did just last year.

Good luck.

Your best bet is probably the Panasonic PT-AE900U.
This is in the process of being replaced by the PT-AX100U. The only real difference is that the AX-100U has more light output. Both are available in the supply chain with AE-900U's going for around $1300 and the AX-100 going for about $2000. The 900U was THE projector to buy for the past year, besting pretty much all comers. If you can swing the AX-100U for another $700, then go for it...but otherwise there are a whole ton of very serious home theater enthusiasts who are VERY happy with their AE-900U units. Oh, and you want the "U" version...stands for USA, which will give you a warranty.
