...a very fast metabolism?
Food just goes right through me.
Is there a particular cause for fast metabolism, or is this just a characteristic that varies from person to person?
See, I've noticed that I will be eating a meal..... and before I'm even done eating, it's ready to come out (if you know what I mean).
I'm trying to gain a bit more weight, but I think this is the reason for my body staying so small. I guess my body retains the nutrients (hopefully), but otherwise, everything litteraly goes RIGHT through me...
Is metabolism the correct term I'm looking for? I think so....
Thank you in advance.

hmmm....there could be many reasons why this is happening. It could just be the way your system works, or it could be a medical problem like overactive thyroid or even Crohn's disease. Please make an appointment with your doctor and discuss this with him/her. It's probably nothing, but they're the health care professionals and this is their field of expertise. I would strongly recommend finding out why this happens to you.

This is a very complex problem. It could be your metabolism, it could be your endocrine gland system or an autoimmune issue or it could be parasites or intestinal issues. The fact that food goes through you quickly is not a metabolic issue. It is an intestinal issue. On the surface, it is common that shortly after eating you have visit the rest room, most people are that way so I would not worry about that. If the rest of your family has the same issues then this could just be the genetics of your family.

If you are very young and very active you may never put on weight due to your physical activity. As I said in the beginning - this is a very complex issue and I hope I helped you some.

hey, it's completely normal! u are really lucky to have a fast metabolism...i bet loads of ppl r jealous of u!!! i also have the same "problem" as you...but i don't consider it a problem...take advantage of it...u can eat as much as u want whenever you want (i love the freedom!!!) I think it's just a characteristis that we have, we can't change it. I do understand your concern about gaining weight...it is a problem i will admit, i'm busy doing fitness training at the moment, which builds up the muscles, which increase ur weight...don't get too muscular tho, tht wuld b gross!! haha. hope this helped, from ur fast metabolism buddy

If it happens during or right after eating...
you might have "gastric dumping syndrome"

Since you said "right through me", it sounded like exactly the way I described it to my wife (who's a doctor BTW) and she said it could be gastric dumping syndrome.

So I don't have to get graphic in the text here, check out the following link...

Anyway, I've found out that drinking less liquid (less than a glass of soda or water) with meals has helped me a lot.

I also eat less when I'm out at restaurants, because it happens mostly then. (Maybe because people eat so much at restaurants).
So now instead of appetizer/bread/salad/soup/
entree/dessert,
I have one piece of bread/soup/entree/half a dessert; and that has also helped a lot. I've also tried to eat more slowly, and I think that helps too.

You should consult a doctor or a nutritionist about what is healthy for you. Don't let anyone else decide what is healthy and right for your body. No one can tell you that without looking at you.
