Speak the way you want, and let them speak the way they want.

I ignore it and I don't give the person any attention for using it. I have a brother who swears alot and I find it very disgusting and other relatives, including our mother, laugh after he uses them. I can't stand it and I spend little time around him. I once had a boss who swore also and I just ignored it in that case too and he would try not to do so in my presence. Both of these people are very intelligent people but their vocabulary must be limited and I have even wondered if they do it to get attention.

I believe ignoring it is the best way to handle it.

I consider swearing to be offensive. To me it's a sign of a poor vocabulary. I would ask someone if they would please not swear when I'm around but I wouldn't do it in front of anyone else unless everyone is doing it. Swearing is a bad habit & like any other habit it can be broken.

Personally my mom would wash my mouth out with soap. She's kinda old school and you don't swear in front of your elders. But when she's not around man I could make a sailor blush.

If possible, I excuse myself and leave the room and find something else to do. The same goes with racial slurs with my in-laws. I detest such talk and before they know it, I'm gone.

It took me years to eliminate my "potty mouth", that I inherited in my youth. Be careful you can't get them to stop, and it is very hard for you to avoid picking up this habit.

I usually just ignore it, and of course, never use them myself. Confronting the problem might be more trouble than it's worth.

I just blankly stare at them until they are uncomfortable- they eventually get the hint.

my recommendation is to get the offender to be talked to when she/he is in a mood to listen to your inputs and you can give why you do not like the way she/he is speaking
