When we came back from the shopping, I gave my 18 year old female tabby Kitty a clap on her head, to discover a very large lump on the back right of her head extending down the right hand side of her neck, the lump feels hard, but she appears to be in no distress or pain. Before we went out, she was fine, this appeared within a space of 90 Minutes. I'm concerned that this is something majorly serious and should we take her to the vet with some urgency. I'm looking for some serious advice, I'm in no mood for smart alec comments, they won't be appreciated, serious suggestions however will.

Please take her to the vet who will know what to do about this. Poor old kitty I hope she's OK (and the bill isn't too big).

You need to see a vet hon, lumps that come on fast can be serious infections or injury. Being 18 it's possibly she fell and hit something and could have a concussion. I know it's the holiday but call the vet emergency line and at least talk to them and ask to bring her in either tonight if anyone is available or first thing in the morning. It could be something like an abscessed tooth, infection from a cut, if she's had any shots lately infection on the injection site but with it appearing that fast, it needs fast attention.Check her all over if you can, check the fur down to skin around the bump, check inside her mouth see any bad build up on any teeth, check her eyes, are the pupils looking normal or dilated, is she acting ok? peeing ok? eating ok? the vet or ER person will ask you these things so check her out really well before you call. Good luck, hope everything works out for the best.

This sounds like an abscess - they can form very quickly and be very alarming. You need to see a vet right away to get it treated and drained otherwise the area around the lump will start to die from the pressure inside. Your cat could also get septicemia (blood poisoning) if not treated. An abscess can be caused by something as small as a prickle from a thorn!

Hi, Could this be an absess? If it is i would suggest getting her to a vet as it is so close to her brain. If not, the fact that it appeared so suddenly would worry me, regardless of if she seems in pain or not, i would get her to the vet asap. It may be a tumour. Good Luck, hope everything is ok

Seriously, take her to the vet. If it came up that quick it may be an infection of some sort but until the vet has seen her you won't know. Hope she's OK.

Take her to the vet and do it now. I hope everything is alright but there is no point wasting time worrying. Do something. Even arrange a house call

make sure the cat has not accidently got something loged inside her fur, it sounds like you need to take her to the vet, it may be somrthing that has infact been there for a while but you never noticed, just because shes not in pain doesnt mean its not serious. take her straight away.

If she seem to feel pain I'd take her to the Vet. At her age well....................I just lost my best friend my cat Gracie a year ago she was 16.So I know how much you love your cat.I know how worried you must be.Give her a petting for me and a scratch on her back at the base of her tail.
