I have a CHI. It was about $150, but it works very efficiently.
It is a ceramic plate. You can also, look at TJMaxx they have some like it also, I have a friend who purchased one there for $25, its a very nice one too.

Your best bet is to enter "flat iron reviews" in your web search. then choose one like folica.com, I like that one best. I wanted to buy the solia when I was looking at reviews. I think they had the best reviews and the price wasnt too bad, compared to a chi. The chi had alot of bad reviews, so I wouldnt waste my money on trying that one. It may be good who knows, but I would go by the reviews and choose one.
You want one that does not pull your hair out, i have a cheap vidal sasson ceramic straightener from walmart and it pulls my hair out at the hinge, i would not buy that one again.
You want to buy a ceramic one, its not as bad on your hair. I never noticed it damaging my hair, but I aslo didnt use it too often, 4 times a month if that.
I think you'll like reading all the reviews. Good luck

I really like the CHI but if you don't straighten your hair often it is not worth all the money. A CHI will run you like $200
