I've never done track before but I do like to run and think it would be fun. I'm in the nineth grade in high school and am considering doing the 1 mile race. Currently my times are all around 5min50sec. What should my time be if I wanted to be a "good" runner for that race. Also what's a good time for the 3200meter.

In the ninth grade you are doing just fine. That is a pretty good time. If you wanted to compete with the juniors and seniors a good time would be around 5 minutes or less. I think the top runners at our local high school run between 4:30 and 5 minutes for the mile.

When I was in 9th grade I started out running like 540-545 and end of freshman year got it down to 520. 550 is alright for a freshman but it depends on how much you are really into the sport. If your into it then your going to start wanting to train harder and probobly get around 5:20. Then for the 2 mile a 1145-12 is pretty average.

When i was in 9th grade (last year) i started out with your exact time range. through out the season my time kept going down by about 10 seconds per track meet and i ended the season with a time of 4min58sec. however i ran varsity until league finals so that my times would have a better chance of improving. i finished 6th in the leauge (the only guys that beat me were 10th graders) which was when i got my 4min58sec mile.

as for the 3200, it was really boring and id get decent times of about 10 or 11 something. mostly 11s i think. but it was fun to run more than 1 event

the general border between JV and varsity in our area is around a 5:00 mile and 11:00 2 mile.
but that shouldn't affect your decision to join track, since you won't really know where you are until you start running track races. Its a lot of fun, so go for it.
