They used to say 8 a day, but that was to all encompassing. Now the standard rule of thumb is to take your weight, divide by 2, and that is how many ounces of water you should drink per day. Example : I weigh 200 lbs. I should drink 100 ounces or 6.25 pints a day. (a pint is 16 oz.)

8 glasses (probably 4 pints) , but I drink around 8 pints. The more the better really. It takes a hell of a lot of water to do any damage to yourself!

Hi.
There are no hard and fast rules on fluid intake.
The minimum in a temperate climate is 1 litre.
If you exercise or live in a warm climate then you will need more.
There is a popular myth that you should drink 2 litres of water per day - this has no scientific basis.
Your body tells you when you need fluid - you feel thirsty.
