During a class discussion in Social studies, my teacher brought up the point that maybe illegal immigrants are being used as scapegoats for are Nations problems. I think she has a valid point.

Now, I am not saying that illegal immigration isn't a problem (in fact, I am still examining and trying to figure out if it is) But, I think it is highly exagerated.Like any country, The USA is has problems, but, who wants to blaim their own selves. And the Governement most certaintly does not want to blaim themselves, so blame is placed on the illegal immigrants.

You don't have a job? Oh, some illegal immigrant has it, neverminnd the fact it is a little sad that an illigal immigrant can get a job but you can't. Besides, they usually occupy lower paying dirty jobs. Taxes go up? Oh, its the illegal immigrants using your money for welfare. Nevermind that it could be the GOVERNMENTS fault, wars are expensive you know.

I am not saying illegal immigrants are not their, and I am not saying

I guess it can kind of be compared to the Jews in Germany. Germany was hit hard by the Great Deppresion. They needed someone to vent their anger on, someone to blaim. Then Hitler came along and said "Oh, its the Jews fault"

Not saying America is going to turn all naztie or anything, I am just saying that it is similar, to a slightly less severe extent

i'll probably get a lot of thumbs down for answering this...but hey, i have healthy ego strength and can take it. that being said, i do think that illegal mexican immigrants get scapegoated for some things...it's one way that politicians and special interest groups keep the heat off of other issues they are not working on resolving. there are some laws that need to be revised however, such as the children of illegals being born here automatically becoming american citizens...i don't think that's allowed in any other country and it shouldn't be allowed in the states either.

illegal immigration is a huge problem in some states more than others. i don't hate immigrants, and i don't feel they are taking jobs away from americans, because they are doing jobs that some americans feel are beneath them. if the "crud" jobs didn't exist, illegals wouldn't come here. most of them are desperate to have freedom and take care of their families. america is still viewed as the land of opportunity and everyone wants an opportunity to have a slice of the pie. apparently, it's pretty difficult to get a green card to come here from south of the border, because so many ppl attempting to get here suffer great hardships, and often die trying.
overpopulation in our country is getting way out-of-control, and there has to be a solution of some kind to solve it.

most americans are totally unaware of how many foreign companies own american land. i don't think that should be allowed either. our country is being sold off little-by-little, and it's gonna come back to bite us on the backside someday when we least expect it.

It is a complex question. You have rightly pointed out that many of the socalled illegal immigrants might be taking up low paid and menial jobs which the local citizen may not be prepared to do. So it is a blessing in disguise. Apart from that harping on the problems govt feels created by the immigrants as the sole reason for all the evils has been the habit of the govts from time immemorial to save their skin. A balanced approach with proper immigration rules restricting the numbers in identified categories should be allowed and this sort of a heart burn could by other citizens could be avoided.

The illegal immigrants take jobs which are payed way below the minium wage. why Hire someone for five dollars and fifteen cents an hour when you can pay some 3 dollars an hour. Yes it's the business greed causing much of the problem. Most of these job they are not given any medical coverage. So if they get sick do you think it's the mexican government that's doling out the cash to pay for them to get better? Think again it's the tax payer.
While illegal immigrants are not to blame for the all the nations problems there are definate issue that can be blamed on them because of greedy companies.
Another think it's great the your teacher says a point of view. However you must remember it's a point of view. AN opionion NOT FACT!

I am married to a German, and well versed in the history of the place, and whatever some ranters here say, the parallel to the scapegoating of Jews in post WW1 Germany is striking, although the Jews were well-established, long-term legal citizens, and mainly resented because they were seen to have overtaken the German/Austrian middle class.

But the mechanism is the same, of course. No better way for any gouvernment to avoid the blame for its failure than making an outside group responsible for all that's wrong with society.

As you can see from most of the answers here, it is working just fine.

"The only thing we can learn from history is that humans don't learn from history." a German historian once said.

In the case of the US today this is sadly the absolute truth.

It is probably exagerated but it is also a serious problem. Anybody who hasn't seen the illegal immigrants demanding special rights is blind. They ARE a drain on the economy of the country. This is true of almost every major nation in the world. It isn't only the US that has this trouble with illegal immigration, nor is it just an excuse to cover up the other failings of the government. The reason it is such a big problem here is a result of our porous borders and the (fully realized) expectation that something will be given for free.

Certainly, there are other problems that need to be addressed as well. But how are we to address the problems of our needy when we cannot discern our needy from the needy sent here from other countries? When you start trying to fix something you address one problem at a time. The first thing you always need to do is remove extraneous issues. Illegal immigrants qualify that way.

Yes, our government is badly screwed up and wastes a mountain of money every day. Billions of dollars are sent overseas every year by our government. Our rights continue to be taken away from us by the government and supported by well meaning bleeding hearts who can't see beyond the ends of their noses. Those issues need to be addressed too. But, government waste will not be addressed by piling on additional programs. It will not be addressed by providing additional services. Government needs to be reduced in size and scope then made fully accountable. The liberal/socialist methods mentioned by some of the other responders will not do that. Hstory has demonstrated that time and again. It makes the government bigger and the people lose more to the government every day.

Ask yourself what you want for this country's future. A proud and productive population or a land of parasites feeding on the productive few? How will you achieve what you want?

This country is being invaded. Your taxes will be higher to support people that come over here and have ANCHOR babies in order to get welfare, food stamps etc. That is better than the conditions in Mexico, if we want to blame a Government why not start at the source, MEXICO. They allow the proverty and depend on us to bail them out. We have tried taking jobs to them to avoid the problem but it doesn't help because the plants there can pay dirt wages they can mow your yard for more than that! I am a 300 year deeply rooted American and My forefathers came to this country as immigrants, who BECAME citizens and learned to speak the language, I resent PRESS 1 for English Press 2 for Spanish,... that is crap! Pretty soon we will be the 'United States of Mexico' ! We need to have the DRAFT to enforce our own borders!

Health care costs have been going up since 1980 for no other reason but greed. It is the same reason the gasoline has gone up.
Some people keep saying our taxes are going up because of illegal aliens. Our government loses and throws away billions and billions of dollars every year. Then they have the audacity to say our Social Security is running out of money.
I pay taxes just like everybody else.My taxes have not gone up because of illegal aliens.

Your teacher is clueless - she needs to some research..you need to complain to the principal that she is teaching her beliefs rather than facts - which are available all over the Internet..not particularly this site..go to http://hsc.house.gov for a report put out by Homeland Security. Remember it is partially biased because our president wants amnesty for all illegals. My personal opinion is most people, including the federal government, is trying this in the media as an emotional issue. Our country's policies cannot be dictated by emotions this is an issue of enforcing our laws...either we will be a lawless society, like mexico or we will be a lawful society which has, obviously, served the USA well in the past.

i think you made some valid points, however there is a problem with illegals in this country, and it really has nothing to do with the work force, it has to do with health care, taxes and things like that. and those things do impact the average American person. health care costs are outrageous because we have to treat illegals with no insurance. the welfare system is over ran with illegals who came here and had children, now their kids are on it, along with getting free daycare in many cases so that they can get paid to go to school, many American children suffer in school because alot of the money is diverted to helping illegals learn English in the classroom and the problems go on and on from there. i am not speaking in terms of things that i have heard, i have seen these things with my own eyes and it is getting worse! i used to work in daycare, and at a school and i am telling you that the problem is crazy. the other problem is that now a days, if you live in the southwest part of the country anyway, you can hardly get a good job if you don't speak Spanish! that is ridiculous! i have a very good job, which i went to college in order to get! in the past year, we have been told that we are going to have to learn basic Spanish so that we can cater to people who speak Spanish only. and in order to get the job now, you HAVE to speak Spanish, good thing i got in when i did! and you are right immigration is the Government's fault.
