Epilepsy is kinda weird in that it's often difficult to figure out the exact causes and, in some cases, even hard to diagnose. Seizures can be very, very minor (almost like "zoning out") or very severe with fish-out-of-water style flopping (tonic clonic or grand mal seizures).
From what I understand, they can sometimes be triggered by severe mental stress, or accompany other mental health issues, or very rarely even accompany migranes. Usually though, if someone is prone to seizures it is noticed fairly early in life and, unfortunately, may be a problem throughout life. Sometimes, other reactions-like fainting easily and/or frequently or numbness-can indicate that someone may be more likely to experience seizures.

I only found out about 6 months ago i was epileptic. I kept blacking out and when i`d came round i`d wet myself and was very confused. After speaking to my GP she said it was definitely epilepsy and asked if i`d ever had it happen as a child, which it did but normally once a year and my old GP told my parents it was due to the really hot summers. My GP has told me why my epilepsy has got really bad and that's due to a terminal illness i have which is attacking my immune system. I take phenetoyn tablets to control the fits which does help. Most people think fits are where your flying about but this is not the case. A "petti mal" is where you spasm and fling about and a "grande Mal" is where you black out. Getting back to the point of your question, There is no definite answer. My GP has told me that it depends on the type of epilepsy (there is a lot) whether or not a person will grow in or out of it. My cousin had severe epilepsy when he was younger and he seems to of grown out of it, He probably only has a fit once in a blue moon.

Yes that is very possible. My aunt had epilepsy as a teen and young adult. But after she got married and settled down, the seizures stopped. But then she got divorced and started having money problems and the seizures started up again.

I didn't know epilepsy was dormant. Different things can cause it, such as medications, head injuries and disease processes.
If you have a history of them, then it's very possible to have them reoccur.
