I'm not aware of any other religion outside of Christianity, Judaism, Muslims that actually believe in a Satan.
So I'm assuming (wrongfully?) that Satan is exclusive to those that accept the Bible as "word."
Assuming that the Bible is true, why would anyone after reading the Book of Revelations decide to become a Satanist? He loses the war according to this book, so why would anyone take his side?

I've been to some of the Satanist sites and some claim that they don't really believe in a Satan, etc. I understood their concept, but I'm addressing the ones that write 666 and praise Satan.

BTW, I'm leaning a degree more toward atheist than I am agnostic.

Choosing best answer is a hard call because we didn't get any of those hail satan people to explain their side. Like I wrote before I've been to the sites that call themselves satanists because they believe it is okay to be self-seeking as long as they do not harm others.

As an atheist I find it questionable to even associate with Satan/Lucifer because it would be an admission that there is some truth to that aspect of the Bible.

The ones that say they worship the biblical satan and write 666 on everything are just doing it for shock value.

People who call themselves Satanists are usually rebelling against something. You can tell because this kind will play dress-up. Some Satanists have other, more intellectual reasons for doing their thing. Those Satanists who worship Satan and use the Bible as a reference are just rebel Christians.

There aren't any people who acutally worship the Biblical Satan. The "Satanists" are usually agnostics or atheists who choose the monkier of "Satanism" in its most literal sense: "Opposer". Opposing what they might see as the stranglehold Christianity has over their culture. It's a way of striking back at those who look down on them for being different...whether because of a lack of belief, or a taste in clothing, or just being young.

Richard "The Night Stalker" Ramierez claimed he was killing for Satan and said "Hail Satan!" a lot for the TV cameras, but that was just a lot of chain-yanking. He went for an insanity plea and got it because of his antics.

Hey, very good question.

I've adopted the "satanic" moniker/imagery as a conscious rejection of the Bible and Qur'an, as well as the ethos of the Abrahamic traditions. This doesn't mean that I worship Lucifer, once angel of light, fallen from grace and delivered into Hell by YHVH. I do believe that Jehovah/Allah is a terrible excuse for anything that is supposed to represent a god.

When you examine YHVH and find a god who changes a covenant from a simple code of 10 basic ethical commandments to 613 laws dealing with every aspect of life, who ravages your civilization using local thugs (read King Nebuchadnezzar) when you go against his will with all the logic of an abusive spouse (you made me give you that black eye), and then discards you in favor of better, more powerful people while casting you as the killers of his anointed - anyone who rebels against that is a symbol of free will, of rebellion against tyranny, and liberty for the mind and soul.

I do believe that there is an entity, force, or power, something indescribable beyond myself. I don't believe that I'm alone in this. Just peruse the myths of the world and you'll regularly find one figure whose function is to defy the gods, promote the survival of humanity, and spur our growth. There are gods who will never simply act on our behalf out of a sense that "they know what's best". They don't demand that we give up our intellectual curiosity, our willingness to question, or our desire to give form to our new understandings. Such gods promote exploration and rebel against tyrants.

I believe in this Prince of Darkness principle. The Christian Satan is just one presentation of His Majesty (and rather inadequate at that).

I believe that the Bible and the Qur'an represent the best propaganda efforts of a needy god with human collaborators, so I'm not concerned with John's Revelation coming true. I am concerned with being true to my principles, heaven and hell be damned.

Satanism is a license to do what you want and annoy christians at the same time, Thats what most satanists think. As for the others i assume that they think satan is going to win in the end. I mean the bible says truth conquers evil in the end(read revelations) so maybe they think that won't work??? Mostly they just want to rebell.

Satanists are born, not made.
Satanists do not worship Satan, Satan is a fictional biblical character.

Perhaps some think they will have access to some kind of power, but satanism seems like a bad idea all around to me.
