I'm 20 years old and I was born with heart disease which has given me a right pulminary stinosis, asd/vsd, heart murmur, my sats stay from 75-80 and when I was a baby the doctors messed up my left lung and so now I only have one lung. my question is that my cardiologist insisted that I'm still able to have kids. I DO NOT want any at all though. I'm only saying this because I believe that it'd be to risky for me. I just want someone to tell me I'm right!! she can't be telling the truth can she? I'm curious. I have serious heart problems and she's telling me this! if a doctor answers then you will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!!

Im working in the cardiology department and i has seen cases very similar with you before. Im sure you have Echocardiography in routine. If you have pulmonary hypertension, the function of your lung will get worse.
When someone get pregnant, the blood pressure usually goes up also. They also deal with water retention. All this can be dangerous for your heart.
Please talk with your cardiologist about this...

it looks like you have tetrology of fallot TOF.
the answer to whether you can have kids or not depends oon ( do you have pulmonary hypertension or not), which is an increase in pulmonary blood pressure.
This condition will cause pulmonary hypertension eventually & in your case you have a non functioning lung will make this possibility even worse.
So my expectation, its very dangerous for you to become pregnant.
the best thing as you know is no check with a cradiologist so that he/she can check the pulmonary blood pressure.
by the way did you have any heart surgery before?

Well, if you don't want kids, then it's really a moot point....isn't it?

If you think it's also too risky, then don't do it. If you ever DO want kids, then talk to an OB that handles high risk pregnancy and see what they say.
