Yes, the test is reliable. However, if you have been exposed and now are HIV+, you may not have yet manufactured the antibodies that most methods test for.
I think what you are asking is, "How long should I continue testing to feel confident that I have not contracted HIV?" Most medical professionals say six months.
What are you doing have unprotected sex in this day and age? You owe it to yourself and to your partner to be responsible.

Hello,
It depends on what test that was carried out.
PCR. detects the hiv/aids dna
P24 detects antigens which appears before antibodies
Antibodies is response to viruses which can appear from 21 days ...most people will seroconvert in 6 weeks...the three weeks test is good but just to be sure and to keep your mind at rest you can either wait for 3 weeks because alot of doctors think the 6 weeks test is more good but not confirmative .......
It also depends on the test so if u had a pcr and antibody test and repeat after 2 month that would be reassuring.....
