Lots of fluids.... water especially.
Low salt diet.
Eat watermelon WITH THE SEEDS. They may be weird to chew, but they contain a chemical that brings blood pressure down.
Purple graps, grape juice and red wine made from grapes. Don't overdo the wine, but a glass each evening before bed can help. Wine is as strong as hard liquor so don't be fooled. A little can help, a lot can ruin your liver and kill brain cells.
Exercise moderately. Don't overdo it and drive your pressure too high. A regular, moderate exercise program will gradually improve your lung capacity, and bring your pulse and blood pressure down.
Lots of fluids. Can't stress the importance of water enough.
NO SODAS. Sodas are very high in sodium.
Tea is a natural mild diuretic and can help keep water retention down. Caffeine on the other hand drives blood pressure up. If you drink coffee or tea... use decaf.
Some medications increase blood pressure..... Stay away from antihistamines and decongestants. If you have congestion and need something, talk to your doctor about alternative medicines that do not raise blood pressure.
Best Wishes,
Sue

I too suffered extreme high blood pressure for years. No medication seemed to work. In the end, I looked at my life-style. With help from a consultant, I established that STRESS was the main culprit. I now look on life in a more sensible way, I take regular exercise, and I feel much more at ease with my lot. Little things that used to stress me out are no longer a worry. Just take it easy, and with help and reduced doses of drugs, you will soon feel better God Bless & Good Luck. Jim

If your blood pressure is persistently high despite taking medication then you need to go back to your doctor. Without changing your medication to effective treatment then you are at risk of stroke and heart attack. Also, untreated high blood pressure can affect your kidneys. Most kidney patients have high b/p.
I am a dialysis patient with high b/p and on 3 different types of medication - high doses - to get my b/p under control. Other things can help such as not smoking, eating healthily, getting some exercise etc. but the most important thing is that you are on the right dose of the right medication.
I hope you manage to sort it out.

Exercise, and lots of healthy eating. No pouring on the salt on foods, no fried food, no frozen foods. Bananas help lower blood pressure too. But you need to try cutting out the salted foods and basically concentrate on healthy stuff. I've had HBP for the last 10 years and I'm on a low dose of BP medicine ziac 2.5 and it never went up from that. My current BP is 110 over 70! Until last year it was at 132 over 85 or so, but I cut out alot of junk foods, chips, doritos and such too.

Well there is much sound advice above but you might want to consider going on a comedy binge and rent all the dvd's or videos you think will make you laugh and since nobody in the profit crazed drugs industry is going to fund studies and therefore reduce the use of their products it is a well buried secret that laughter can cause real physiological changes. Go on, try it!

I have been on medications since 1983 when I had a serious stroke. Currently I take 2 20mg propranolol, 2 lisinopril/HCTZ 20-12.5 tablets, and one 10 mg Norvasc daily. I know this a load but at least it has kept me alive for 23 years.

The other week my BP tested at 204/145 - I am now on 40mg Enalapril per day, and it runs at a normal 130-140/80-90, so if drugs don't do it for you, get back and kick *** at your medics until they sort you out - but don't get uptight about it or you may go off 'pop'!
