sorry you are too old for DLA but there are other benefits you may be entitled to.
Phone the DSS and ask for someone to come to your home. They will send someone with all the forms and they will fill them in. I'm saying this because in my experience DSS offices are not pleasant and you have to wait ages sitting on a metal chair - much better to have someone come out although it won't be emidiatly. Also you can download the forms from the DSS website but they are legnthy and having someone there you can ask questions.
It is also worth phoning the council and speaking to social services, they probably have something called "elderly services team" and ask for an assesement of needs. They have to do the assesement, it's a legal requirement. This will highlight any areas social services can hel with eg equipment such as grabbers or hand rails.
Depending on your financial circumstances you may be entitled to
Tax Credit
Severe Disablement Allowance
Carer's Allowance
Income Support
If you get Income Support you will also get Council Tax Benefit and if you are renting your home Housing Benefit.
BTW Happy birthday and good look.

Hi, Many happy returns for today !!
Please make an appointment with your local CAB office, they will be-able to give you all the help you need and even tell you all the benefit's you should be entitled too. You will also get help with filling out all those dreaded forms.. If you do not have a local office near to you, you could phone your nearest office, I know in some areas of the country CAB centre's offer home meetings for those who are disabled or have no means of getting to their office.
All the best and good luck

Well I truely hope that you managed to have a nice birthday - Happy Birthday to you. I think you need to be below 65 to apply for DLA - however, there are other benefits that I'm sure you would be able to apply for & the best place to visit is the local Social Security centre & ask for advice. You could ring them & ask for someone to call to help you with the forms. It might be that other benefits would be more applicable to your situation - I can't believe that you're not entitled to help because you are over 65. I am in receipt of DLA as I am cardiac diabled at the age of 44. It has made a huge difference to our quality of life as we both had to give up well paid jobs - me as a result of my health & my husband in order to look after me and our daughter. I've got a "blue badge" which is an absolute gem as it allows me to get out of the house & not worry about having to walk too far. I must admit that I had to fight for everything that I've been awarded & that no one suggested to me that I should be entitled to benefits. I think if you get hold of a helpful person at DSS you should do OK. Good luck & I hope that life gets easier for you and your husband. I can empathise. x

Phone your Social Security Office and they will tell you what forms you both need and send them to you. They will even help you to fill them in.
I'm very sorry you are both incapacitated and wish you every success in getting the money to which at your ages are most definitely entitled. What puzzles me is the fact that none of your family members have recommended that you claim these benefits before you came to this stage of illnesses.
Good luck.

Go to your local job center and explain your situation to some one there, book and appoinment so they will give you enough time to explain.
They will then give you some forms, once you have filled them out send them off or give the forms to them and after a few weeks they will tell you what you are entitled to.
Good luck.

Social Security Administration
http://www.socialsecurity.gov/
In the middle of the page, it has
Disability and SSI
Do you qualify? | Apply for disability benefits
..........so you may apply for benefits online!!!!
Your state's welfare, food stamps and other benefits office, in the blue pages of your telephone book. Or look up your state online..for their offices.
Apply immediately...as they don't pay for the first 5 months to get Social Security Disability benefits....I know and it took me 11 months to be approved...and I had a lots of proof.
May GOD bless all of your wishes and needs!

first of all, happy birthday.the best thing to do is to contact your local social security office/jobcentre.they will be able to inform you of all the benefits you are entitled to,and will send you the necessary forms to fill in.you will probably need a doctors certificate as well to send in with the forms as proof of your disability,so if you haven't already got this, then it's worth sorting it out as soon as possible to save time.

The situation you find yourself in is disgraceful and intolerable. Go to the local social welfare office. It would be advisable to take along a letter from your G.P. Dont waste any more time. It appears that your situation warrants immediate action. God Bless Jim
