Perfectly normal. Nicotine numbs the throat lining and the hairs that stop you inhaling loads of dust etc. After 3 days this effect no longer works and the cough mechanism work properly again. The sore throat is because you can now feel the damage the smoke does and should ease off after a couple of weeks. that stuff from you lungs by the way will probably keep coming up for a few months but it will lessen with time. It is you body repairing itself stick with it its doing you good

Here's some of the common withdrawal and recovery symptoms you may experience

Constipation

Coughing or sore throat - You may have a sore throat and be coughing more than you ever did as a smoker! This is completely normal and is a sign that your lungs are doing what they're supposed to do and rejecting the tar and debris that has built up over the years.

Cravings
Difficulty concentrating
Disturbed sleep or insomnia
Emotional or suffering from mood swings
Headaches, dizziness or tingling
Huge appetite
Really tired

Good Luck

The anti smoking mantra goes:

3 hours
3 days
3 months
3 years.

The idea is that these are the critical times for smokers, when they can be effected by cravings.

The stuff that you are coughing up is all of the c****p that has been adheared to your lungs via a glue made of tar/smoke/nicotine. Your throat has also been anesthatized/clogged up.

All that is happening is that your lungs are being cleared out all of the coughing is going to give you a sore throat.

Stick with it. You will be feeling a bit liquidy for another few months yet. It does get better though. You might also be prone to more colds/flu as you no longer have a layer of tar to kill off all of the bugs. You should be getting some flavour back in your taste buds though, which means that you get to re-discover your favourate foods all over again.

Good luck.

This is perfectly normal. Dont worry! Your lungs are just getting rid of the tar and mucus that have been stuck in there. Since your body has not had a cigerette for a few days, your body is starting to heal and the sore throat is probly from all the coughing. Good luck!

Totally normal. Your lungs are finally getting rid of the mucous that they have been unable to clear. Your throat being sore is most likely do to post nasal drip, which may be due to the healing in your sinuses. That's why I got both when I quit anyway.
On, btw, they should stop within a week, or at least ease up some.

That's your lungs getting rid of all the tar and other cr*p you had in them. Believe it or not it is a good sign. Well done for quitting! I know how hard it is but believe me it gets better and after a couple of weeks you will really start to notice a difference.
Yet again well done.

You're coughing up a lot of grunge because for body is cleansing itself of the tar and muck in your lungs from smoking. This is quite normal.

According to nurse friend, this can go on for some time, in her case, off and on for several months. It is your lungs coming back to life and getting rid of all the yuck.
