When you stress adrenalin pumps through your body preparing you for whatever action is necessary. It increases your breathing rate, allowing more blood to pump to your muscles. It is an evolutionary feature of human beings. It's perfectly normal.

It is absolutely normal for your breathing to change when you are nervous or stressed. Your body is preparing itself to react for what you are about to encounter, usually. Either you breathing will become faster... thus more oxygen. Or if you are hyperventilating, you make become somewhat dizzy and your body will be 'told' to breathe slower. It doesn't necessarily mean that you are having a panic attack. It just means you have alot of angst.

Completley normal, that is exactly what happens when you get stressed. Try to take in deep cleansing breaths, as many as it takes to get you back to normal. That's where the old adage "count to ten comes from" take in ten balanced breaths to regain composure.

I used to get panic attacks, shortness of breath, racing heart - they ended up putting me on valium for it.
So my guess is that you may be having diagnosable panic attacks that require stress management education, or medication if it impairs your ability to function.

Yes, I usually have panic attacks. I get it often because of asthma. You just need to drink a cold glass of water and lie down. It works in seconds.
