they don't "have the right". they are forced to by their natural instinct to survive. and cows do not live long healthy lives around humans, cows used for milk are often mistreated and of course are killed for meat. calves are trapped in small dark boxes to make veal. finally, there were plenty of vegetarians before technology evolved, such as leonardo da vinci and benjamin franklin.

Disclaimer: I am not vegetarian. I am a carnivore by nature.
First off, we are on top of the food chain. But that does not means it is good stuff. Whenever there is contamination and poisions in the food chain, the top predator will be affected the most.
Second off, the animal we breed for food lives relatively short live because we chose to eat younger animals. Older animals will usually yield tougher meat. And they are not really live to be "happy" or healthy live style. They are put into cramped places where their movement are limited and they are living with their refuse everyday. To reduce dieseases and sickness, their diet are added with hormones and anti-biotics.
Also, some food like fro-gras, some sources says that goose or ducks were rasied to the point which their livers becomes fatty livers. They were actually being killed days or weeks before they would die of the fatty liver. So, healthy live style for our domesticated animals, I would say not for all cases.
Many people becomes vegetarian after the fact that they learn about the animals in farms and evironment they were exposed to. They do not want to contribute to more animal suffering by eating meat and by-products and thus increase the demands. Their efforts may not contribute to much significant impact on the market but at least they feel better themselves.

tsumaru seems a little confused at best, hypocrtical at worst. The "need meat" / protien statements are not true. There is no other way to describe them. Comparing mans approach to eating meat with a lions is way too simplistic even for the most basic of discussions. Do you chase Gazelles around the tundra and kill it with your bare hands, eating the flesh raw ? Does a lion cage up Zebras in barns with thousands of othere zebras all thier lifes just so it can slaughter them for food ? No, so that comparison can stop there - there is nothing to compare. Tsuamu claims s/he recognises animal suffering but does not know how to go about changing the treatment of livestock. eeerrr, stop supporting it ? or support CIWF or such ? There, that wasn't too difficult and certainly not a "hard thing to do". In fact, you could take that action instantly. "from now on, i will not support poor animal treatment." saying its hard, difficult or don't know how is just excuses really. There is a ton of evidence and examples of how to help stop/reduce cruelty to animals available Its down to the will to do it. If people don't have the will, they should just say so. Eating eggs harms millions of creatures. Hens are killed at 9 motnhs old rather than a natural 10 year old death. They are generally housed in appauling conditions. Sorry, but I don't see any complexity in this. If you want to reduce/stop animals suffering at your expense, you can do it, today.

Animals have the right to eat other animals, because, check out their mouths, the teeth and jaw structures.
An animal with just blunts, teeth, will and can eat only vegetables.
Any animal that has sharps and blunts, can eat both. They usually are higher on the food chain. The vegetable eating animals were created to feed them, along with vegetables also.
Man fits the latter category. He is a variety eater by nature.
Nevertheless, he can choose to be a vegetarian if he so desires.
Many vegetarians have found out through experience, that there are alot of chemicals in our milk now.
Also, many people wish to help conserve the planet, as far as the way land is used. For crops, or crops just to feed animals.
The choice is ours, either way.

Have you ever hear of "Evolution in Action"? How about "Hey! You! Out of the gene pool"?
If you're dumb enough to jump the fence at the zoo; or go back country hiking without bear spray it's better for us all if you get devoured!
A perfect example is your obvious lack of knowledge of cattle! In the wild most cattle live 10-20 years. In dairy or meat production industries almost all cattle are killed before the age of 3! Why? Dairy cows milk production drops after the first few births so it's cost effective to replace them with fresh cows. There is also that 'little' "mad cow" problem! Rather than test cattle for the disease the USDA decided that any cattle slaughtered under 30 months age are 'clean'. The dairy operation I know of used to keep cows for 4 years-now they ship them out at 29 months to stay under that 'window'.
I'd also suggest you ask some Hindu's or Jain's about pre-tech vegetarianism.
Why don't you go visit your local zoo and play with the nice kitties!

I don't know what reasons all vegetarians give to why they don't eat meat.
I being a vegetarian, simply believe that it takes more energy producing and maintaining animals than it is to vegetables and grains. Maybe the effects of famine in the world could be reduced. It just seems pointless to waste energy in world that needs to conserve.
You basically have rights to eat what you want. We are omnivorous. Our bodies are designed to take in plant matter (we actually really need it). We can eat meat but our bodies can't handle just eating meat alone, we need plant matter to push it out. Other animals of course are different, they have different digestive systems.
Its not about which animal has rights. That's mans creation. Nature decides in the end. You can't force a cow to eat a hot dog and lion to chew kelp.
I personally don't like the fact that an animal is raised just to be killed. Its raised in a environment that we create not nature.
The more you go against nature the more nature goes against you. Balance is the key. I don't think we are keeping to the balance. We over-using our resources more than it produces. I think vegetarianism is a way of balancing.

It started at the beginning of time. All animals were calm and got along with man and never fought. They feed only on vegitation. But with the sin of Adam and Eve then it is written that they were casted out of the Garden of Eden and that is when the tormoil started. They were told that meat could be eaten. It became a food chain. People ate meat and other forms of food to survive.

I love when people tell me that they're vegetarians.
It's like they took out a big red bucket of paint, and drew circles, as if they were a human target.
It's like a dare: I DARE YOU to say something negative about not eating animals, and the minute you say something I find even partially negative, I'm going to dance the PETA dance all over you.
It just makes getting to know those people that much harder. They just scream, "I"m a victim of general misunderstanding"!!!

veganism is not about morality..its not about sin or piety or about going to hell or heaven.....theres more science in veganism than you think. animals are very similar to us in physiology, unlike the plants. thats why its safer to eat veggies rather than meat...look at rabies, mad cow disease, bird flu etc etc..the list is endless..... add to this the fact that livestock animals now outnumber us 3 to 1, and consume far more than we do...its just criminal in my opinion, to feed cows for beef, when there are still people starving in the world today....so, you might have a dislike for vegans and vegetarians, but you must concede that their beliefs are essentially correct.if you want a balanced scientific view on veganism, try this link...
