Unless a person has consumed something red, or pink in color, pink mucus WOULD BE BLOOD. If you are referring to sputum (coughed up from the lungs), as opposed to monoliths picked from the nose, the person needs to be seen by a doctor immediately. Get them to an emergency room for a chest x-ray and to have the sputum analyzed.

If you are actually coughing up pink mucus, coming directly from your lungs(sputum) then you need to go to your doctor right away or go to the hospital. If you are just spitting or coming from your nose it may be something different, but you should still see a doctor. Blood from anywhere (except maybe your gums) would either be bright red, fresh blood, or dark red to brown, old blood, but not pink. Your gums bleeding may be pink when you spit into the sink but not within your mucus. See your doctor!!

sounds like you could have injured your upper respiratory tract from all that coughing and build up. the salt water gargle probably just aggravated it and made it even worse. unless you are bleeding all the time i don't think it is of immediate concern. make sure you rest and keep drinking fluids.

It is blood if it's pink. Could be a broken blood vessel. It's common when you cough a lot, blow your nose a lot when your sick. It can also be from bleeding gums.

It is diluted blood. If you spit pink the saliva is mixing with blood somewhere.

The only two things it could be is either blood or perhaps you were eating something with red food coloring in it.

Throat or chest infection or possibly dental abcess. See your doctor. Why do people ask for diagnoses on here?
