Yes, but not for long. I had all kinds of stomach problems after my daughter was born. I tried the blood type diet which was recomended to me by the lady at the health food store. Turns out for AB I shouldn't be eating much meat at all. So I cut out almost all meat.. I eat it maybe once on the weekends and special occasions, and my stomach problems have gone away... except for when I cheat and eat meat that is. :)
People have given me weird looks and have looked at me like I was crazy and said, "So you don't eat meat?!?" I just take it with a grain of salt and move on.

I am a vegetarian and yes, occasionally I feel like an outsider. I find it difficult to order meals at some restaurants (I don't live in a very veggie friendly area) and a FEW people I know continually ask my the "why" questions of it all.
I must say though... the MOST irritating one is my best friend! If I invite them to dinner... she always wants to know if she can bring some meat. I am a wonderful cook - my roommate raves about my cooking, as do most people - Is it going to KILL her to NOT eat meat for ONE meal??? And I never serve tofu or anything at these dinners... I'll do a veggie lasagna, or spaghetti with fake meat, or something that I'd eat even if I weren't vegetarian. WHY are people so afraid to miss one meal of meat??

I was for 15 years a vegetarian I did not feel like an outsider nor did I feel as if people hated me for my choice. My friends were supportive and never tried to get me to "just taste" something they knew was against my beliefs. Now it is getting easier when going out to restaurants to find vegan menus' and I applaud society for recognizing the growing trend. I am no longer total vegan and as sorry as I am to say this I do consume winged animals and those that reside in water but never will a cow, deer, pig etc touch my lips.

I have been vegan for a long time and was ovo-lacto vegetarian for a long time before that. Yes, people will tease you for the rest of your life unless they have a similar diet. This kind of teasing is usually just them thinking that they're being funny, not to hurt you. I am a proud outsider when it comes to my diet. I feel like I'm socially and environmentally responsible because of my choices. When they say things to you, don't get upset. Tell them why you made the choices you did and let them know that you respect everyone's personal choices and that you hope they can respect yours too. Never do or don't do things just because of what others will think. You have a heart and mind of your own.

LOL to sarah. sarah, you're a riot! I almost peed myself! Thumbs up! I have heard and read all of those statements before. Instead of scouring the internet to read up on vegetarianism and veganism, alot of the trolls and anti-vegetarians expose their sheer ignorance for us to laugh at. It's like reading the Sunday comics sometimes on this forum. If you don't fully understand someones way of life, EDUCATE YOURSELF about it before you formulate an opinion! *chuckles* BTW, I'm just waiting for a particular ANTI-vegetarian to make a comment. This character is a regular on the V/V forum. I get good laughs out of her ignorance. I believe her avatar wears a purple beanie cap over short blond hair...

I am not a vegetarian but a lady I worked for is and she ate fish, and eggs. If someone hates a person because of their food choices they would not like them even if they ate meat. Food preferences really have nothing to do with how you are preceived by others.

I haven't eaten meat in a month but I refuse to call myself a vegetarian. I worried what people would think of me if I called myself one. My parents would think I'd gone nuts and disown me.
A lot of people I hang out with think vegetarians have a screw lose, I can't especially tell my best friend, because she thinks people who don't eat meat die from lack of protein.

Yes I am, and yes I do. Until recently, people have been ok with me. I don't talk about it much, and I don't press it upon people.
However, people have recently attacked my for my beliefs, (without any prompt apart from me admitting - after their question - that I am a vegetarian) telling me I'm stupid, and trying to convince me that animals do not matter.
