I do know quite a lot of older Caribbean people who have developed old age diabetes, I don't think its anything to do with genes but possibly the diet because a lot of Caribbean food is very high in sugar and carbohydrates.

Halo! I´ll try to answer your question.Long time ago people form poor countries such as Africa, Cari-be and all those which didn´t have resources so as to get by.Their body get used to absorb a minimun quantitiy of food and people in those times were able to survive with no food.It means body got used to survive and share very few food .It took for a long time .Nowadays, People from those poor Countries eat differently and their needs are different too.therefore, the mood changes, the style of live can also chage ,but what is much more difficult, is to try to change all which your nature has done during your existence,so African people with little food get by while other one from a different country will pass away. I hpoe you have take in .

Maybe both? I know that people from Asia are more likely to get type 2 diabetes because of their genes so I expect this plays a role in it, but maybe diet too.

Its a combination of both, they are also genetically more prone to getting type 2 diabetes at an earlier age than the caucasian population...;

This is an interesting question. It is said to be genetic but the truth is that afro carribeans are genetically more likely to get diabetes eating high fat, high sugar western diet.

I think it definitely has to be the diet. They eat so much coconut, which leads to high cholesterol.
