Comfort is a big reason. A lot of us will have a junk food meal if we have had a bad day. We have takeaways as a treat on pay day but don't eat them too often. Takeaway veggie curries are yummy but full of fat and calories!!! The thing that makes them less tempting for every day dinner in the UK is the price!!! One simply couldn't afford to eat them everyday !!!
Some people are addicted to junk food which is really sad for them! Other people donot like fruit vegetables or home cooked vegetarian meals and prefer overly processed high sodium junk!! Some people NEVER eat fruit or vegetables (except potatos cut into fries) How sad is that?

Time! junk food is already pre-pared a person buying it doesn't have to do any thing but eat it. I know i eat junk food when i don't have time or if my energy level doesn't want to cook a big meal. After eating fast food or junk food i always regret it , not because of the calories, but because it usually doesn't taste and satisfy as much as if i would have prepared a meal myself.

Early humans worked hard to obtain meat, and fruit was a treat because it was the only sugar available and it was available by season only. Salt was always a physiologic requirement.

Our taste for these things is ingrained in us by evolution.

In modern times, we can get all of these in any quantity that we can afford. Think of McDonald's: salty meat and french fries, and sweets in the form of Coke and McFlurries. You don't want burgers? How about a juicy 16-oz. steak rounded off by a basic apple pie a la mode? We got it all. You can't stop rock 'n' roll.

Because it's good... and it's addictive.

If you think it's not addictive... try stopping to eat it. It's like trying to quit smoking.
