The bottles whether you buy omega 3 (fish oil) capsules at Walmart or health-food stores, will have the daily dosage on the label.

My advice is to take it! It helps the brain considerably - and most certainly more than doing nothing at all. My only suggestion would be to contact your doctor and make sure its nothing that would have a bad reaction to medicines you might currently take.

If there is no risk of dangerous interaction - then take it.

Omega-3 has been proved to be good for the heart and in preventing some heart-related problems. I take it myself and have for a long time. The recommended dosage is 1000/day and since you can get the Omega-3 in bottles of 1000 mcg, you need only take one a day. Without looking at my bottle I don't remember whether it was 1000 mcg or mg, but it was 1000. I talked with my physician about this and he concurred it was beneficial.

You can buy the fish oil capsuls over the counter. Most people prefer the ones that are coated to prevent heartburn. It seems to work best to take one following lunch or dinner.

Go to your local vitamin store and ask them what the recommended daily allocation is for your age group.

You can also go to Barnes and Noble or Borders for a book on vitamins: Vitamins for Dummies
