most of the people attending will be over 60 years old & probably largely female. I think it's an evening do.

If they are elderly, I doubt they will eat a great deal especially in the evening.

I would cater 3 of each per person. One thing they will go nuts about at that age is if there is wastage.

Who is paying for the buffet? Unless its an unlimited budget and your mother is working for free, the amount per person should have been factored in when the quote was done.

lukanjim - if you are a chef and cater 8-10 portions of sweets as well as 8-10 portions of savoury for elderly ladies on an evening buffet I shudder to think what you would serve teenagers! Do you work for yourself or do you waste money and food for an employer?

Largely female I would say sweets but the tradition is 60% savory and 40% sweet

I would prefer plenty of food theres nothing worse than a skimpy buffet.it does not matter how old you are if theres booze then everyone will be tucking in.Have a lovely time & Good Luck to your Mam.
