back in the day...we used lard... but now times have changed...it isn't really the food, as in any culture..it the way it is prepared. I have put a stop to the lard..and went for olive oil...food even taste different...but everyone knows butter and lard gives it's flavor...as for a sub...just watch the salt and oil...other than that...the only health risk i can think of...is your body getting tired from all that "junk in the trunk"

Soul food had the same risks as any other food. It is just as susceptible to food poisoning and mold as any other food. Enjoy the experience.

Some of the meat is fried, but there is also a lot of greens, which are good for you.

The same risk as any other cuisine-not eating in moderation. Moderation of fats, pork, red meat, etc... Turkey (namely, smoked turkey) has replaced pork which is commonly used to "season" foods in many soul food dishes

Huh, there's no more risk to eating soul food than any other ethnic variety of food. Although, I have heard .... to much pone and chittlings and you suddenly get rythm. But that ain't bad right??? I mean, we could all use a little rythm.
