Today I am 190 over 60,(last week 180/60) I think it is kind of high, but where I work they keep calling me to fix things. Can not afford to lose my job, but at every given moment I can almost feel that my blood pressure is rising. Called my superiors tonight to let them know, and they reassured me that it was ok to skip a couple of days, but my responsibilities!. If someting goes wrong at the workplace am I responsible or indespensible?

Thank you Lori and Sov, I am an American living and working in Italy. I am a little afraid of going to the doctors here, but for your responses and my health I will definately try. Sorry I am just an ole hermit living and working here. Thank you both again for being......here! Wonder how many American's have benifited from your replies? Thank you again.

I don't find you irresponsible but that reading is a warning something could be seriously wrong. You might be overworked and going through stress. Plz get this checked out.

That's not kind of high, that's very high. You need to find another doctor if you've gone to the doctor about this and he/she is not getting you on something to better manage your blood pressure, and please be aware those pharmacy machines can be off by as much as 10-20 points in either direction. Go to a local fire rescue station and have them take your blood pressure if you can't get to a doctor. They have the proper equipment and training to take an accurate reading.

Which would you prefer, going to the doctor and getting this under control and possibly being reprimanded, or having a heart attack or stroke? This isn't a cold or allergies, your blood pressure needs to be addressed with a doctor.

go see a doctor ASAP..that is wayyyy tooo high and it is a medical emergency.. even if you were really stressed at work ur pressure shouldn't get that high. just wondering how old are you, if you were overweight, smoke/drink, how is your diet like and if you have any family history of hypertension? I would start w/ diet and exercise, quit smoking and drink only socially...and if that doesnt lower your pressure significanly, you probably need to start on prescribed medication. and i am sure your company will understand if you skip days to see a doctor..this is your life..fix the problem and you can go back to work worry-free about this condition. Good luck!

The systolic is high. This could be due to stress. See an internist.
