I make my own chili because I don't usually like commercial brands. For a crockpot, I would brown 2 lbs. of ground beef with some minced (so the kids don't know its there) onion and garlic. Just one clove of garlic and about a 1/4 cup of onion. Drain the grease off the meat and stir in 1 tablespoon chili powder, 1 tsp. salt and 1/2 tsp. pepper and 2 tsp. flour. Stir in 2 large cans diced tomatoes and 2 small cans of chili beans. Let it heat through and serve with cornbread, crackers and a fruit salad.
This recipe make a very mild chili, if you want to spice it up, put in more chili powder or a small can of diced chilis or for the adults, put out a bottle of hot sauce or Tabasco.
Have fun!

This is my recipe...
2 lbs. ground beef
1 can stewed tomato (or paste for the kids)
1 can campbell's chili (premade - believe me, it makes a difference!)
1 can chili beans
1 fresh garlic clove
2 packets mccormick chili seasoning (original or mild)
1 medium onion (puree it for the kids)
1 medium green pepper (puree for the kids)
chili powder
brown ground beef in pan on stove with green pepper, onion, garlic, and as much chilli powder as you would like.
once meat mixtures is brown (drain grease) add to crockpot with the rest of the ingredients (do not drain the liquid from the can of chili beans, dump it all in the crockpot).
High or low setting as well as how long to cook simply depend on your time limits. I have found that it tastes better if it sits longer in the crockpot on low.
This recipe is not spicy and is my ten year old's favorite. I just put out jalepeno's for my husband if he wants his chili spicy.
EDIT>> Don't forget the crackers and shredded cheese!

I don't know if the kids will like it but because of the holiday there is a pumpkin cilia recipe that is to die for.
Pumpkin Chili Mexican
1 pound ground beef or turkey ¾ cup chopped onion ½ cup diced, each: red and green bell peppers 1 garlic clove, minced 2 (14.5-ounce) cans diced tomatoes, including liquid 1 (15-ounce) can each: pumpkin, tomato sauce and kidney beans, drained
1 (4-ounce) can diced green chilies ½ cup frozen or fresh corn kernels 1 tablespoon chili powder 1 teaspoon each: ground cumin and salt ½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
Crumble ground beef in a dishwasher-safe hard-plastic colander suspended over a 3- to 4-quart casserole. Sprinkle onion, red and green bell peppers and garlic over meat. Stirring midway through cooking, microwave on high 7 minutes. Discard grease and place meat mixture in same casserole.
Add tomatoes, pumpkin, tomato sauce, kidney beans, chilies, corn, chili powder, cumin, salt and pepper; stir to blend. Cover with lid or vented plastic wrap and microwave on high 8 minutes. Stir, cover and microwave on medium (50 percent) 12 minutes. Makes 10 servings, each: 216 calories.
Serving Suggestion: Accompany with grated Cheddar cheese, diced green onion and sour cream.
I hope you like it if you do try it. :-)

There is an all natural mix called False Alarm Chili. All the ingredients (dry) are in separate little packets. It's very good!!

Because children have more sensitive taste-buds, use less of all of the spices. Make it more like the sloppy-joe than the chili and you should be okay. You might think about making one with and one without beans, if that is possible.

My son's ex-girlfriend used to make chili with ground beef, kidney beans and spaghetti-O's! Kids would probably like that, but I'm not so sure the adults would! Good luck!

Trust me on this. This is the chili of choice for people who don't like hot and/or spicy chili.
