there are 2 types of diabetes

type one (insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) is genetic - an autoimmune disease in which your body attacks the cells which make insulin (this is a hormone which you need to get the sugar (glucose) out of your blood and into your cells). It's possible for your grandfather to have this then, while not you or your father - as it requires 2 to tango, and you have to inherit the wrong set of genes.

type two (non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) has also been shown to have some genetic links, although not well defined. Type 2 diabetes is a case in which your body produces plenty of insulin, but your cells do not respond well to that insulin, thus resulting in the same situation of elevated glucose in your blood.

Type 2 has a number of environmental and lifestyle factors as well. Age and weight are two large factors. As you get older, you simply have a harder time (and if you're genetically predisposed it doesn't help). If you are overweight, you are at a significantly increased risk (adipose tissue is much worse than muscle tissue at glucose utilization).

If your grandfather has type 2, then it's likely that both you and your father will also get it in time. however by maintaining a healthy diet and weight, you may be able to delay onset for many years.

Depends on the type (1 or 2) Type 1, the true diabetes happens at birth. Type 2 the misinformed version, is NOT due to genetics, no matter how hard they try to tell you it is. There has been an 700% increase in Diabetes over the past 50 years or so. Genetics can not and is not the cause of this. What has chaned is how and where we get our food. We have been told the wrong thing to make people feel better as to why they have it.

Diabetes Type 2 has all to do with leptin receptors and our poor diet then with blood sugar. Avoid all prcocessed foods, fast food, sugar, pop, and simple carbohydrates. Eat smart and you will never get the most preventable condition. I have included a direct link to the article that will explain this, but check the whole site out and get the truth that the FDA, Dept of Ag and the pharm compaines won't tell you.

EDIT (This has nothing to do with Genetics, only Type 1 which is completely different. You get it from birth. Type 2 is all lifestyle. The reason it shows up in familes is more due to the habits you learn from your parents. If they are horrible eaters, chances are you will be too. Notice how everything is now genetics. People want to grasp for anything but themselves as a cause, that way, they don't have to do the hard work to fix it. Anyone who has a "thyroid" condition is in the same boat. Not all, but alot. Just alot of excuses. Food supply is key, learn about it)

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

First of all if your grandpa has type 1 then don't worry type 1 is only 3-5 % hereditary. If we are talking about type 2 then do you have any other risk factors? Also type 2 is only 30% hereditary. There is no (big NO) certainty you can and will get it. Also the other person said only women pass on that gene untrue.

Forget anything you have ever been told about Diabetes.

And get this - it has nothing to do with insulin, exercise, diet or anything else you've heard in the past. It's all based on latest breakthrough research that Big Pharma is going Stir Crazy to hide from you.

Diabetes plays no favorites and doesn't skip generations. You could be at risk as well as anyone else in your family. Be sure the doc tests both you and your dad as well as others in your family regularly.

first it doesn't skip generations. second, you really can't predict if you will get it or not, or if you can prevent it. if you eat health, exercise properly, and stay current with doctor check-ups, your chances will be better. type 2 diabetes is easier to control than type 1. just have your blood sugar checked at your doctor visits, and tell him your concern. hopfully you will never have to worry about it.
