It won't be just for me, about five other people in my family are vegetarian, too and I really want there to be something good. So far there's going to be salad, sweet potato casserole and broccoli and cheese for us to eat. And of course lots and lots of pies. Any other ideas?

And for those of you who eat meat and are likely to respond with some remark about how much they like turkey, just remember, I am not one of those people who goes around condemning people for eating meat. I would appreciate it if you would resepect my eating choices as I do yours(and really, I like turkey too, I just don't eat it...don't tell any other vegans, they would kill me)

Well, I am thinking of making this (it's called a cornbread casserole but is really kind of like a savoury pie with a cornbread crust and a vegetable/bean stew inside):

I was also thinking of doing a pumpkin ricotta lasagne - not very traditional but the pumpkin will give it a Thanksgiving feel. A Google search will reveal dozens of recipes.

You will also find a lot of great ideas on this website (including another cornbread pie):

You could also do a vegetarian stuffing if the regular stuffing won't be vegetarian; I know I would hate to miss out on the stuffing!

Andi you are 'truly evil' ! Check the link below-I've been informed by a Scot that the stuff really is like a good haggis!

For more traditional contributions (and I'm stepping on other folks answers here)
Garlic mashed 'taters-no milk use veggie stock
veggie gravy-add a dash of Bourbon and the meat eaters love it
real home baked bread!
tofu 'turkey'
veggie soups-butternut squash fits the season
I never had the 'guts' to do a pizza but I like the idea!

Traditional green bean casserole....on the back of the Frenchs fried onion rings package.

Garlic mashed or roasted potatoes...or potatoes roasted with an infused olive oil poured over them.

Mushrooms stuffed with cheese and broccoli, and baked.

For something very different why not try a Vegetarian Haggis! Although that might sound like a contradiction in terms, they are very spicey and tasty and the ones that we buy from our local supermarket cook in the microwave in about 3 mins.

My [non-vegetarian] husband has even asked for this for the main Christmas meal this year.

If you're up for it how about a tofu turkey. I know I get tired of the same side dishes every year so the other veggies/vegans may be too!

I love a veg stuffing. 10 cups of GOOD dry bread, 1cup each...diced carrots, celery, green apple or chestnuts or cranberries(or a mix of each) 1 cup of vegetable stock, 1 egg, or egg replacement, 1/2 stick butter, 1tbsp. poultry seasoning(which is just sage, thyme, parsley, and some rosemary(, or 1tsp. of each of the forementioned herbs. In a large pot cook butter(you can sub 3 tbs. of olive oil, if you prefer not to use butter)with vegetables and herbs, after 3 minutes, add 1/4 c. of stock, simmer 10 minutes. In a large bowl, mix egg and 1/4 c. of stock, 2tsp. of salt and 1tsp. of pepper, mix well and stir in bread cubes, add veggie mixture, put in a greased baking dish, and bake at 350 covered for 1 hour. After 1/2 hour, chech stuffing and add more stock if needed, you will have 1/2 cup left to "baste" with. good luck

It might compete with the turkey, but I love to have vegetarian lasagna for Thanksgiving, and it would be a taster option compared to salad and broccoli. :)

I always make a fabulous cornbread dressing with chopped yellow squash, carrots, onions, garlic, peppers, cranberries and spiced and herbed nicely. I want to try a tofurkey this year too. I also like fresh green beans and mushrooms.
