As another possibility, if a person doesn't have a home, they wouldn't have any place to store leftovers or keep food fresh if you purchased them food. So SOME might actually ask for money so they can purchase cheap, non-perishable items so that they can get more value for their food, rather than having someone bring them a hamburger or something from which they only get one meal. You can find lots of stores that sell canned non-perishable items for .50 cents each or less.
But with that said, I agree with most answers, that people more likely want the money for alcohol or drugs. The draw of drugs can be so strong that people ignore their needs for food once they are hooked. It's really sad.

each and every time! i ought to apply the karma! i detect that if i will help with $10 then i'm stable for the entire week on that heat and fuzzy feeling! I stay in the country, so beggar's come around possibly as quickly as ever 3-4 months. I gave one run away sitting outdoors a KFC an entire meal, and once I heard her tale, I foot the bill for the bus journey lower back living house. Her father and that i shop sending the $ lower back and forth, he will pay me lower back and that i tell him to provide up stealing my karma and deliver it lower back! it relatively is quite hilarious, she is making plans to bypass to varsity right here in Wisconsin, and could spend the diverse smaller trip journeys out right here on the lake with us. She's the daughter we've by no skill had. Pen acquaintances continuously!

Firstly, please spell check your question, I could hardly understand what you were saying.
I have had at least two homeless people ask me for food. And if you offer them food they are usually quite willing to accept.
Most people don't carry food around with them, or if they do it's because they were planning to eat it themselves. It's much quicker to hand over some change than go to a local shop and buy something for them.
I've met a few homeless people who seemed to just want to talk most of all.
Though many homeless people are drug addicts/alcoholics, have pity. Imagine trying to give up a heroin addiction while sleeping rough.
Believe it or not, homeless people might also want money for something other than food, drugs or alcohol, such as a night in a hostel.

For many a point well taken. You cannot drink or shoot up food.
Offer any beggar or pan handler a meal and see what happens.
Some have gotten smart and ask for gas for their car that is "somewhere" down the street. I have seen them working in pairs.
One time years ago in Denver, Colorado, I saw one get up from a piano dolly (he looked like he had no legs) and ride off in a stretch limo! He had been collecting all day near a bar and grill near the old Denver Dry Goods Company. I saw this from a second story window and have seldom given to street types since.

A lot of people that beg do so because they are alcoholics and they cannot hold a job so this is their way of getting money for more booze. I have offered to get food for beggars and have gotten turned down because they just want the money to get the alcohol.

Because they want it for drugs or alcohol. But, one day I felt that this man really wanted food. I was going into McDonalds and he asked me if I could buy food. I pondered for a few seconds, then told him to come inside with me. He ordered what he wanted, was really appreciatve. I will never know if he had money in his pocket, but I felt like I did the right thing.

That is why we should not give money to beggars, but we try to help them improving their living conditions. Governments should do this thing by using our tax payments or special donations.
In some countries, bad people cause injuries to children and throw the victims out in the streets to do begging for them! In this case, giving alms is causing harms to innocent children.

Some cities allow you to purchase chits at a variety of stores and resteraunts. These are then given as hand outs instead of money. It's supposed to cut don't on their purchasing of alcohol or drugs with the money they would normally beg

They think they know what to do with the money which is quite ironic when you look at the situation they are in !
You gotta laugh at them... booze or drugs are more important than a good life... amazing thought process there huh?!! HA HA HA HA
