As someone who reads application forms and shortlists - all I can say is be honest, tell it like it is and although giving a reason is good - make it a reason and not just an excuse!!

That is good that you can find jobs for people with criminal histories. If you are asking do you have to tell a prospective employer if the person they are going to hire has a criminal record, the answer is no, unless that employer wants to know, and then they can request a criminal history report by having the prospective employee sign a waiver allowing the employer to have a police agency check the background through NCIC, an agency that keeps track of the criminal histories. The prospective employer does not get a full history when this is done. They only get what's necessary to them as determined by law.

If someone with a criminal record was to work for me, either in a voluntary position or paid work, I would definitely want to know what their passed offences were. That is the burden they carry for breaking the law in the first place, they had a choice, so so should employers be able to have a choice as to whether they wish these people to be trusted in their employment.

I wish you the best of luck. Its hard enough to find employment in the UK with qualifications and minus the criminal record - it must be nigh on impossible if people are young and have a record. Keep up the good work - everyone deserves a break sometime x

THIS IS NOT AN EASY ONE(sorry about the caps. I need to look at what I'm typing from time to time), It all depends on the crime and how many previous the person has. Drink and drugs are usually a good excuse, as long as they have given up, and people tend to be sympathetic towards FORMER druggies and alcies who have shown willingness and grit to start afresh.

Between £50 and £70 for employees. Much less for volunteers.

I was not aware that most jobs asked for a CRB, only jobs which involve kids or other vulnerable groups ask - and jobs such as the police or a couple of other government bodies.
