Do we really have freedom of speech today or have we become to sensitive to express our own views out of fear of offending other religions ect. Does anyone else think this problem is getting worse or wonder what the future holds. To me it seems a very one sided issue as there are no repurcusions for what some of us say.

i dont believe we have freedom of speech
Freedom of expression is one of the most fundamental rights that individuals enjoy. It is fundamental to the existence of democracy and the respect of human dignity. It is also one of the most dangerous rights, because freedom of expression means the freedom to express one's discontent with the status quo and the desire to change it. As such, it is one of the most threatened rights, with governments - and even human rights groups - all over the world constantly trying to curtail

I think people have freedom of speech here..

Although alot of whats posted around the place seems to be un-educated mud slinging on subjects they only know one side of.
Or are very close minded on that subject (yes I'm being broad).

So this then in turns gets peoples backs up that have the knowledge and the broad minded views to post some facts.
Some might keep quiet, but you will always find others that will take it upon themselves to shead some light on the subject.

Then you will have a never ending - pulling it apart and flaming post. where the topic is not aheard to.

I guess they call that freedom of speech.

The answer seems to be no since the invention of PC by the left . George Orwell was a bit of a prophet we know have Thought Crime . Free speech and PC don't go together and the Governments desire to make more race laws because of the BNP is a recipe for disaster creating sympathy . British democracy is built on acceptance of dissent and free speech .

True freedom of speech has been eroded by violence and by the current bushocracy to the point where it's almost nothing but a concept, learned in school but never practiced!

We NEED to get it back! Hopefully, w/the Dems holding Congress, we will. Just push for a Democratic prez and you'll see the America many of grew up in and remember fondly (Free press, artistic innovation, enforcement of Constitutional rights, the ability to dissent!).

Freedom of speech is being eroded it seems, it can only result in greater tension as we can't let off steam. May be something even more cataclysmic than 9/11 is going to happen in the near future.

On the contrary, I believe many inappropriate things happen under the name of freedom of speech. By default my freedom stops at the border of yours. I cannot insult you out of freedom of speech, can I? There are limits and taboos. You can definitely express opinions, the question is how! Present your arguement decently and express your opinion respectfully; is this very hard? Do we have to insult each other and our sacred figures to be free? (I do not mean you personally of course :)

Peace

Your question seems more of a freedom of religion question than freedom of speech. What some people to not understand is that freedom of religion is also freedon FROM religion.

We no longer have true freedom of speech and what we say and do is also being monitored. Not in extremes such as during some dictatorships I could mention, but its becoming that way because of racial hatred and paranioa.

We are intelligent people, old traditions has made their time, we today are asking questions to know the truth.
Good questions shouldn't hurt no one or any religion, it's the only way we can come up with an understanding.
