For the past couple days i am having a hard time sleeping. Even when I do fall asleep, i keep tossing and turning. I usually have a hard time staying asleep too and would wake up around like 2 hours. Is there anything I can do instead of taking medication? I tried counting sheeps and stuff like that. please help

Since this is something that has been affecting you for only a few days, it is clearly not a chronic problem. My guess is that you are stressed about something. The best thing will be to either accept or deal with the stress issue that is causing the problem.

Second, 'pretending' to be asleep has been found to be just as beneficial as actual sleep. Close your eyes, think about your breathing, something pointless (the 'counting sheep' method), or a pleasant memory. Avoid thinking about your problems or your day. You will either fall asleep, or be calm enough that you still get up refreshed. Avoid getting up or watching TV, these will only make you feel sleepy, but when you go back to bed you will not be able to get to sleep any easier.

Another suggestion is to get more exercise or do something which wears you out physically during the day. Studies show that active people are less stressed and tend to have deeper sleep. (We dream more when we are stressed or mentally tired, less when we are physically tired).

If none of this helps, and if this becomes an on going problem, then consider talking to a doctor.

When you sleep(rest) the body restores and rivitalises itself. One basic reason for lack of sleep is a deficiency in physical activity. For e,g if you spend you day as a couch potato then you only need a few hours sleep as your body was rested throughout the day. In order to ensure you have sleep engage in a physically exerting exercise e.g aerobics, jogging, swimming etc

Try taking melatonin. It occurs naturally in the body and it's what makes you fall asleep. Wal-Mart has it in the vitamin section.
