Hello and I"m sorry your pain is not controlled! These patches don't work as quickly as pills because the medicine first must be absorbed into the tissues, and then it is released to your body. They therefore often take 12 hours or more to reach full effect. You should apply them as directed to clean, dry skin-no lotion etc-and it will help if you press down over the patch with your hand for 20-30 seconds to warm the adhesive and help it stick when you apply them. Because of the slow onset of relief, you may need a pill to cover your breakthrough pain. Please contact your physician as soon as possible. NEVER use more patches than directed! You may indeed need a higher dose than what he initially gave you, but you must work up to that dose as prescribed or it can have serious consequences, up to and including overdose/death. Please do call your doctor and explain your pain levels and concerns. There are several oral pain meds available that can be given with the Fentanyl patch. If the doctor does not hear from you they will assume you're doing fine. Blessings, cryllie

Very few people actually OD from the Fentanyl patches. Most who do have applied more than one patch or taken more of their oral medications than they were suppose to have taken.
Your physician should have advised you on how he wanted you to start the patches, especially with taking Lortab. Call your doctor and ask him/her specifically how you should use the patch and if you can supplement the patch with Lortab or another medication for any breakthrough pain you may have.

Fentanyl in the IV form of 25 mg has a very short life. In the Patch form, you are getting 25 mg over a period of 3 days, its a slow release. The only way you could OD on this is if you changed it everyday, but you still wouldnt necessarily OD on it. Its a small dose. I give my patients up to 200mg of Fentanyl every 2 hours to keep them calm, and they do fine. As far as having Loratab in your system, they are 2 different classes of drugs, and loratab, if I remember correctly is the tab form of Morphine, which also has a short life in the system. You should be fine. If you start feeling funny, go to the ER.

Fentanyl is indeed a very strong drug that is used for severe pain. In this case, if your pharmacist and dr. did not say anything, the dose should be alright for you.
FYI, fentanyl is even a controlled drug under the law. Which means it has very strict requirement before being dispensed.
If you experienced any side effects while on it, call up your dr/ pharmacist.

I was on this fentanyl Patch for 4 days for RSD/CRPS. I ended up on the 4th day so very sick. I was so sick to my stomach from this. It was 25 mg. My pod told me to take it off and gave me a scrip for the nausea. This is a powerful drug. I just couldn't take it. Please discuss the side effects with your doctor. I was in a fog while I was on this and couldn't think clearly at all. My doctors took me off it immediately. Just be aware of the side effects and proceed with caution please.

Look for a surgeon that implants spinal cord stimulators. They can allow you to get off the narcotics alltogether, like they did for my husband whose had spinal fusion surgery.

Could you please go to get some other form of pain management? I am not saying this to be mean. I was in a terrible car accident 1 1/2 yrs ago and I understand severe back pain and have taken loratab before..... and as far as mixing is....if you get all your meds from the same Dr. it should be fine because they know best....we all react differently to different meds and there bonding of one another. But you should be fine. Please call the source of who filled the prescription and ask them!
