The best way to make your car pass an mot on emissions is to drive the car on a motorway for about an hour or so before the test. IE if your mot test was booked for 1 pm drive it on a motorway or bypass from 11 30 until the test don t use 5th gear you want to keep the revs high like 60 mph in 4th gear when you get to the garage for an mot don t turn off the engine make n sure the engine is stays hot Most cars will fall the emissions if the engine is cold. Is it possible when you had the car retested it was cold? before you buy a new cat for any car try the above

It's not advised as there is very little clearance between the top of the tyre and the bottom of the spring mount on the front strut. There's a good chance snow chains would just lock the wheel.

Snow tyres are not as good as snow chains. The garage is incorrect. You can get snow chains to fit on any car, and most snow chains will fit on most tyres if adjusted properly.
More significant to having snow chains, is sufficient weight on your drive wheels. If you have a relatively light rear wheel drive car you will be all over the place on ice and snow, and you will find climbing hills almost impossible.
In those circumstances snow chains are invaluable.

The Focus has so little clearance around the tires I wouldn't risk putting chains on it in my shop either.
If they aren't perfectly adjusted they will cause a ton of damage.
It's a front wheel drive car, with decent all season tires you should be able to drive anywhere that you have any business going.

You can pretty much put snow chains on any car. It's not impossible to put snow chains on a ford focus. Go by your local ford dealer and they will be able to give you a estimate on chains.

To be honest, you don't need either. All you need to do is learn how to drive on snow and ice. It surprises me just how many people don't have a clue. The secret is try not to stop. If you time things right, you'll find it quite easy. I've driven small cars and big cars through snow, and only had a problem once, and that was because I stopped my MG metro to give someone a jump start! I kept my engine running, but when I parked shortly after, my battery was nearly flat, and I had to get a jump start off someone else to get home again.

I can't see why you can't fit snow chains to any car, as long as the chain is the right size.
