If your daughter is exhibiting symptoms, the last thing you should be doing is a home diagnosis. She needs to be professionally evaluated. If diabetes runs in the family, I am very surprised that you haven't had her tested on a regular basis as the sooner diabetes is managed the more the damage it causes can be delayed.
Please get your daughter in as soon as possible. Today would be good.

Well, weight LOSS, not gain would be a symptom of diabetes, type 1 or 2. And type 1 doesn't have a proven genetic tendency. Type 2 does run in family's, is more common in adults, but can strike children, but usually if they are overweight to start with, which is what brings it on at a younger age. Fasting blood glouse would need to be +125 but like you say, one stick wouldn't be a firm dx. She could have an infection which could skew her #'s. Take the girl to the doctor and don't guess because if she is diabetic, esp type 1, she needs immediate treatment!

Anything between, 4mmols and 7mmols is normal, if it goes below the 4 then it is classed as hypo.. alot of GP's and nurses don't worry too much unless it goes too far over the 7mmols ..sometimes it is normal for someone to be 9mmols, but normally if it is higher it is classed as Hyper, take your daughter to your GP and get her checked properly..especially if Diabetes is in your husbands family

What the hell? Take your daughter to a doctor. Don't get your medical advice from Yahoo answers when it comes to whether or not your daughter has an illness that could eventually kill her.

You need to take her to a doctor for a physical, and he'll do tests, be able to figure out at what risk she is, and then let you know how you can deal with things.
