Actuallty the tortoises came second....the first trial were Queensland Cane Toads with crackers up their bottom, they only changed to tortoises with gelignite suppositoris because the wicks on the crackers werent long enough and quite a few pilots were killed when the toads blew up before leaving the aircraft.

If the airforce/navy or marine planes run out of ammo (wery unlikely!) they would just stop flying until logistics got a chance to catch up, eq deliver resuplys. I belive that the us has huge loads of ammo in reserve (not pearhaps the latest or the best but at least cold war stuff) that the forces can draw from. I also belive that whenewer there is a shortage of ammo, manufacturer are more than happy to work overtime to get adidional units and deliver them overseas. Johan

Doesnt make sense.. why risk the lives of pilots when they are not doing anything constructive (destructive?) i never heard of exploding tortoises anyway, unless you were dropping them as food for some poor hungry refugees.. you might as well have dropped blank bullets , in the hope that the velocity would kill someone after hitting them on the head, otherwise, drop rocks.. youre bound to kill something that way

so that is what they mean by "heavy shelling". They were used mainly for armoured emplacements. For softer targets they sometimes used Lemmings with sticks of dynamite clutched in there little paws.
They also had flying squirrels which were obviously re-usabble and were trained to glide in silently and undetected and drop frag grenades down the chimneys of German HQ's.
Dolphions always get the fame for sticking mines onto ships but they are just Mackerel with squeky voices and cute little faces

I suspect not. Although there is a limerik that says in 1944 the germans were at war, they dropped their guns and used their bums and thats how they lost the war'. Perhaps thats due to the same ammunition problem...

No, that was an excuse the carrier pigeons made when they flew overhead after a large lunch.

Yes that's why there's a shortage of them now and do you remember hearing that saying, 'There was heavy shelling over Berlin last night'
