Because the AKC can't get their nose out of the air long enough to recognize what a kick-*** dog the pittie is! AKC is a bunch of freaking snobs anyway...

The original breed, the Bull Terrier was some sort of a mix of Bulldog, English Smooth Terrier and others in England a while ago. This dog later became known as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier. When it was brought to the U.S. in the late 1800s, it was used for a lot of pit fights and got called the Pit Bull Terrier, American Bull Terrier, and Yankee Terrier. Americans favored a slightly bigger dog than the English, and with time these split off into two separate breeds. The U.S. breed got called the Staffordshire Terrier in 1936, and then renamed in 1972 to the American Staffordshire Terrier. That is the breed most people think of when they talk about a Pit Bull. So to answer your original question, the Pit Bull is in fact in the AKC, it's just under a different name (or two different names, if you want to include the original English version).

Hope this helps.

The American Pit Bull Terrier isn't recognized by the AKC, but the American Staffordshire Terrier and the Staffordshire Bull Terrier are. Also, the Staffie Bull is considered, by most people, a pit bull (along with a few other 'bully' breeds). The Am Pit IS recognized by the UKC though...

Well Pit bull isn't because its a mix between 2 pure breed dogs, But what the proper name for it is , is Staffordshire Bull Terrier, most Pitbulls are a mix between this and a Minature Bull Terrier

Because they're "breed-ist" they don't like the reputation of the pittie. If you want to get a pittie into AKC, you have to call it an American Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Am.Staff. are & Staffy Bulls.

The APBT is a UKC recognised breed.

"Pitbulls" are NOT recognised by any legitimate registry. No written standard,no parent club,no gazillion-generation PURE BRED pedigrees........
