OK we need to recycle more thats been agreed BUT why do the Government go for this microchip weighing of rubbish? why not do a local competition where the people who've recylced the most get a reward ? Like if you recycle 80% of your domestic waste you get a 10% rebate on your council tax and if your don't meet that target you pay the full amount? Just a thought as this spy in the bins and individual billing per kilo will just lead to more fly tipping in my view.

Since they started the re-cycling in my area, I am amazed at the amount of times I have received leaflets changing the times, days, what rubbish can go where and what can't! This year alone, the council have changed it 3 times-talk about practice what they preach! Some of the leaflets are glossy as well....now where shall I put this one? As for the fly tipping, we all know who will end up paying for that to be cleared as well. Will we ever win with this one? Yours is a good idea though.

you're absolutely right. this government and councils cannot just carry on indiscriminately hiking taxation without expecting repercussions.
I actually think it's a good idea IF the rubbish collection element is dropped from the council tax AND the amount we recylce is netted off against the rubbish and then charged accordingly.
We all know however that won't happen, it will simply be added onto our bills.

It's stupid.

My council won't let me put glass in my recycle bin, yet is going to expect me to recyle it so it can meet its recycling quotas.

Theres no way I can drag the amount of glass I use each week, mainly beer & wine bottles, to the nearest bottle bank so it looks like I'm going to have to keep putting it in my normal bin.

You've got a good idea here. Why don't you suggest it to your local councillors. You can look them up on your council's website. Find the ones that have special resonsiblities for waste, environment etc and email them.

my council gives us bags for paper, card and textiles and a box for glass, cans and plastics.

I agree that charging for rubbish is going to make flytipping a hell of a lot more common.

A competition would encourage people a lot more... it's a more positive way of encouraging re-cycling instead of making it a negative thng.

i agree with you but usually they just want a way of getting more money out of you!! I like your idea, but it would mean less money for them, the environment issues of today seem to be a license to tax people even more.
