this question has always bothered me when i attended church and i actually asked one of the youth leaders the question. He never did answer me because the dinner bell rang and i guess he was very hungry.....
Here goes -> : well the bible stats that : "The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure.
Who can understand it? " Jeremiah 17 : 9 So lets say you think God spoke to you about something. Lets call the subject "@"...
How do you know God spoke to you about @ and its not the devil coming in the disguise of your conscience and that this question you are now asking yourself is actually coming from God to prevent you from getting deceived ? On the other hand could it be your lack of faith to believe that it is from God ? and that the question you are asking yourself (who just spoke to me) is from the devil to stop you from listening to God ? or that @ just came from your deceitful heart becaue of certain impure thoughts, motive, or lack of self- exteem ?

just saying you know sounds very much like an easy way out. people that have told me "you will know" or "they just know" have later on renouce their believes or later said they were deceived...so who spoke to them before they became "undeceived" ?

The first thing you should ask yourself is: Does it feel right? The next thing: Is it consistent with God's word? If you answered yes then you will know it is God. A house divided will fall, you see. If you are a Christian you will know who it is from. You will feel it down to the soul.

*edit-the devil knows his bible too so he could use the scripture against you...how you know he isnt ?

How would the devil use the truth of God against you? If the message you are getting is consistent with the word of God then it is not the devil. How could it be? The devil doesn't want you anywhere near the word. Like I said, a house divided cannot stand. Put on your armor by strengthening your faith in His word. That is how we protect ourselves from the enemy. Call on God. God, Himself is our protector!

First check that what you heard aligns with God's word.
Ask the Holy Spirit to confirm the word by giving you peace in your heart.
If God's word is used to keep you further from God or to be disobedient to Him then the devil is using the word to deceive you.
Check with a Christian who is full of the Spirit and who tells you he can do so to confirm the word for you.
Let every word be settled in the presence of two or three witnesses.
The deceitful heart belongs to an unredeemed person, a sinner. As a believer God has taken out your heart of stone and has given you a heart of flesh (Ezek 11:19, 36:26) You already have a heart that is sensitive to God if you yield to Him.

That is an excelllent question, and I have been asking that of people for years. It is only certain branches of Christianity that believe this, the rest of us do not. For those who say you have to compare it with the Bible, then why not just take the Bible teaching to begin with, what do you need this voice for? I believe we are to live by the Bible ande its principles. Direct revelation from God ended with the conclusion of the New Testament. Peter calls the Bible the "more sure word of prophecy". Personally I think they are deceived people as you mention.

That's true, the devil does know the scriptures and will try to use it against you, but when you are having doubts go to Matthew chapter 16 verses 22-23. I find when the devil brings doubts to me saying a verse in the Bible always helps and the doubts go away.

You would know God had spoken to you in the fact that what you heard spoken , if followed , would not lead you to sin and would not be contrary to the teachings of God !!! It won`t hurt to look in advance and see if the "end" justifies the "means" !! ** 1 Corinthians 14 : 33 .. For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace as in all churches of the saints..... ** James 4 : 17 .. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good , and doeth it not , to him it is sin .... **

When God speaks, its always in conformity with his word.
if you hear a voice that is not, then it's either your subconscious or an evil spirit.

secondly, the voice of God comes at the solar plexus, not in the head, and then slowly seeps on into the brain. the mind takes a while to understand.

You will know a tree by its fruit. what is the voice you hear telling you to do. If it is evil then it is from the devil if not pure evil it might be your conscious or your thought or the devil tricking you. Believe me as one who has heard it, when it is God speaking to you you won't have any doubts about where it is coming from.

Good question....

The first thing we are to do is to verify it against the Word of God. For God does not contradict Himself. If it contradicts Scripture, it is not from God.

The next thing is discernment....as it is written:

The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.” (1 Corinthians 2:12-14)

So the question arises, "How do we position ourselves so that we may be able to discern the true Word of God?"

Paul wrote, “9And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, 10so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, 11filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ--to the glory and praise of God.” (Phil 1)

And Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever – the Spirit of truth.”

2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Careful who you tell you have heard voices or seen things that are miraculous. People who "hear" voices or "see" visions are deemed insane, at least in the USA, and often committed They say about 1% of the human population is "schizophrenic" that is hear voices, see visions and form delusional beliefs about what they see or hear. By this criteria those in the Bible who were "seeing" miraculous things and "hearing" messages from God and writing about it were technically insane.
