It depends on what the mentally handicap is. Mentally handicapped covers a wide range of issues. For details how to deal with a particle problems a appropriate trained individual should be contacted. Such as a doctor who is trained in what the handicap is.

If it’s a learning disability then simply listening to the child and what that child’s needs are is the best answer.

If it’s something very serous, setting up nurses and other alternative care gives most likely will be what you need to do.

In any case, being patient is the best idea.

The "care" is the same for all children. Good food, rest, clean clothes, toys and lots of hugs. Special needs kids usually have organizations that will help. My grandson was born with down syndrome and he doesn't speak. He goes to school in a class for special needs kids and he gets to compete in special olympics. It's important to know each child well enough to know their potential and help them reach it. what an ordinary accomplishment is to most kids is a big deal for our Darin and he is proud of himself because we are proud of him. One important thing...have a doctor tell you the child's "mental age". If his capacity is that of a 7 year old then you won't be upset if his behavior is 7 year old behavior when he is 12. See what I mean? Help him grow but remember his limits. Good luck.
