Martial art was first learnt by bhuddist monks when crossing over Himalayas to save them from attacks both from animals and tribals on the way from India to China . So the teacher is India but was developed by chinese for their usage
The Martials arts has its origin from Tantra.

Let me see! I practised tai-chi, that's Chinese. I think that to start with it was only practised by a few chosen ones. And it is suggest that it improves both the energy, the health and the concentration. The fact is that you do it while concentrating on your breath. Karate was also practised by samurais, the great Japanese warriors. They were models of stoicism. When they fails in their life, it was usual for them to do hara-kiri, suicide by knife. I would say, it was always a discipline, any way. Always to improve the Ki, Chi... energy... that the energy keeps flowing is the main preoccupation of oriental doctors.

In Taoism was to do the movements, controlling breathing, it primary for hearth and later the monks because they couldn't walk with wapons they used these movements as self defense.

it was initially a form of dance mimicking animals.
it was called jeet-koon-do which means "way of the foot"
but then they realised that the foot was meant for kicking people.
and so it became a marital art form.
