Absolutely...
A clock made by Oregon Scientific. Less than 20 quid. Check Ebay.
These clocks recieve the Radio Time Clock signal broadcast from Rugby, and set themselves automatically.
Think about that.
You will never miss the clocks going back, or forward.
You will always be accurate to within one second (is that enough for you?).
They use little power when on batteries, and have a mains function on most of them too. Indeed, I've never actually plugged mine in to the mains....and it even projects the time on the ceiling at night, in addittion to a large lcd screen.
And durable too. Mine has been thrown, dropped etc, and has never failed me.
To me that ticks all the boxes. Model No. RM313PU

It's nice to wake up to music - the only time I listen to classical, and it's so relaxing. You can set the sound level to suit yourself. There are loads of radio alarms in the Argos brochure, from £3.49! Or you can get an i-pod docking radio alarm for £15. Most of them have an lcd display which you can see in the dark.
But for really good sound I would recommend getting a DAB digital radio with an alarm function. You'll need to put it on your Christmas wish list - they cost from around £50.

The best alarm clock to get is
http://www.amazon.com/HoMedics-SS-4000-Classic-Deluxe-Machine/dp/B0001W01L0/sr=8-4/qid=1164017562/ref=pd_bbs_sr_4/103-0006640-2042218?ie=UTF8&s=hpc#
And you better hurry its on sale right now and its really cheep!
I love mine, it has a button that will display the time on your ceiling. You can chose to have it on full time or you can press the snooze button and just have it come on for a few sec. It also makes noises like waterfall, birds, rain...and so on. I love it, I wake up the the birds and I fall asleep to the rain. I hate being home alone at night when my husband is on 3rd shift but with this I can put on the rain sound and fall right to sleep. I love this clock!!!!
