No - if the circumstances are as you describe then a) the police MUST take a crime report and b) it must be investigated as you have a serious injury. If you believe that you were assaulted because you are black then the police MUST complete a racial incident form.
However, if it turns into one person's word against another then the CPS may not prosecute or you may not win at Court.
In that case you could sue as the burden of proof is far less for civil cases than for criminal.
Let it go and move on? You have broken finger? That is unacceptable and you should complain to Devon and Cornwall Police.
But as I've said, there are two sides to every story, and the above is based solely on having heard your perception of events.
Good luck and take care.

i hope you documented your injuries.this is a serious discrimination matter.,just the comment alone, about your color, was unacceptable.
i would go to a lawyer immediately.if a police report was written,it will have the names of the officers on it.
if you don't do this for yourself,do it for all the other people out there who will be hurt if this behavior is allowed to continue(both by the doorman, and the police).remember what happened to amadou diallo, abner louima, patrick dorismond, etc.it also makes the good police out there look bad.
we should be moving toward a time that we have learned that we are all related and equal.

I had a similar problem in Newport, Wales. I got thrown out of a club for waiting for a friend who was buying me a drink at the bar i was stood near the ladies toilets (im female so nothing dodgy about that) when i was asked what i was doing n told to move i calmly explained that i was waiting for some one who was at the bar n would move when they got bk....... however i got accused of arguing, being gobie and swearing which i certainly did not do....this lead to me be escorted down 3 flights of stairs by 2 very large bouncers. when i sat escorted i mean lifted up off the floor with both hands of each bouncer under each arm their grip was so tight it left me with hand print bruises on both arms... when my friend spotted us n told them to leave me the dropped!!! me onto the floor to add to this when i stood up i pushed very hard into metal railing which in turn bruised my back and ribs. unproved attack on a female they don't care who they attack. the police couldn't do anything video evidence from the club magically disappeared !!
It is serious but its best to move on unless u have the ways and means to do summat about it. the police can never do much as CCTV evidence from clubs always disappear unless u have some witness there's not much hope.

welcome to Plymouth! I used to live there, but knew that anywhere around Union street was a dodgy area..
I would learn from this and Don't go back! Unless you are a pissed Chav, or a Sailor out on the lash for the night.. id avoid that area full stop.
as for letting it go,, WHY!
you did nothing wrong..
And as for saying you all look the same!! well, that's a racist comment in its own right.
The Bouncers down there are all brawn, no brains, but I'm afraid the ranks will close behind you...
I would take it further!
you don't deserve to be treated like that! NO ONE does!

A - Take a class in English grammar. (Take 2 you need them.)
B - Use Spell Checker more often just to get rid of those pesky 'bussiness' type errors.
C - I seriously doubt your story. What actually happened?
