I live in Devon, 2 seconds from the coast, 20 minutes from Dartmoor and the most scenic train journey in England (apparently - just watch for the waves at Dawlish, exhilerating if a little scary). Anyway, bueatiful walks, cosy country pubs, little fishing villages and rugged rural landscapes. If you want further info, let me know. PS like the answer bout Stanstead airport tho - the have a point!

Go to the New Forest. Very close to London (1.5 hours by train or car) and really nice at any time of year.
There will be loads of places to stay at this time of year whatever your budget.
ps. don't touch the ponies - they tend to kick!
