It has always been my understanding that a Christian is one who believes in the words of Jesus. For example, Jesus said that He and the Father are One. I have always understood that to mean that Jesus is God. Is it possible for the pope to say that Muslims are worshipping the same God that Christians are when Muslims deny the deity of Christ?

Every religion calls upon A god, but that does not mean it is THE God.
The God of Islam is not the God of Christianity, just as the non-deity of the Jehovah's Witness's Christ is the Christian Christ.
Just as the Biblical Church of Jesus is not the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (the Mormons)
The plain fact is i am not a member of your group unless you say I am. Same goes for religion- your claim to be worshipping MY God is not valid unless I validate it.

The Pope is the ultimate Christian ... he is the descendant of the original leader of the Christians, St. Peter.

It suffices to say that Christians, Jews, Muslims, etc look to the same creator of the universe (some of us spell this G-O-D, some Y-A-W-E-H, some A-L-L-A-H, some J-E-H-O-V-A-H, etc. ---& even some Atheists refer to this as S-O-M-E G-R-E-A-T P-O-W-E-R that created all of this -- this "great power" that began the universe is exactly the same as most people's reference to God--we just all spell it differently (it's really only a matter of semantics).

So, you see, most of the world basically believes in the same thing...they just spell it differently, & choose to act on their beliefs in their own unique way! Stop trying to find out what 'divides' the world--we're a lot more alike than you realize.

We really do worship same God - one and only. Out of respect for your beliefs, I will not comment Jesus' (pbuh) diety ...... i just wish people would stop calling my God a pagan and moon God.

You will never hear me bash Christians or Jews

Hey, love thy neighbour

YES, Pope is a Christian - that's a big step you know - what he said - maybe in time we will unite and stop fighting over whose God is the realy one

Allah, Yahweh and God are the same. The Pope is Catholic a branch of Christianity.

Do you really believe that God only visited the Christians??? No one denies the existence of Jesus.

I am an atheist, though, to answer your question, the pope is christian.

however, I believe the Jews have it most correctly as they do not riot when they are persecuted. Look at the Muslims, they riot when a frickin' cartoon is printed. Such childishness! The Jews have been murdered countlessly yet they remain peace full. I support them as they are most likely to finally realize that religion is bad for humanity.

Yes. The Pope is a Christian.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church states, "The plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the Creator, in the first place amongst whom are the Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God, mankind's judge on the last day."

With love in Christ.

I don't know why the pope said that. I suppose he didn't want any more nuns getting stabbed in the back.
