they howl because it sounds like another dog.. my dogs hear a faint siren like 5 blocks away and howl like it was down the street so you people with your weak theories need to back down

Dogs have sensitive hearing, so it's not suprising that they howl. Honestly, no one knows what it sounds like to another dog, everything is a theory. You're theory's a good one, but because dog's have senstive hearing, they pick up high pitched sounds easliy, so it is possible that it's hurting their ears. You can never be sure though... (Not yet anyway!)

My dog ignores them. Odd too... I've only ever heard him howl once... he has the cutest little "fuzzy" sounding howl! Not what you expect from a big dog....

My dogs howl at everything too. sometimes I think they are just imagining things so they can bark. Dogs are crazy but i love them :)
